Time to fire Knoblauch, recall Rodrigue and put Stu Skinner, RNH, Janmark, Brown & Henrique in the pressbox. And for god sake put Jeff Skinner with McDrai.....
The fact that Dustin Schwartz still has a job is a testament to the fact that this organization believes goaltending is merely an afterthought.
Predictions:
Jeff Skinner get scratched or slotted in the 4th line next game again on Thursday while Nuge gets gravy minutes with McDavid on the 1st line and PP, but not doing jack shit offensively. Janmark will suddenly get top 6 Devin Shore 2.0 minutes as he's Knoblauch's personal favorite.
Skinner if in net will suck ass posting a .847 save type of %, and Jack + Louie will deflect again making some sort of random excuse on why the sieve couldn't keep the puck out of the net as the other team's goalies makes huge saves to say otherwise. Bouchard will cause a simple turnover which Skinner gives up an easy weak goal which gives the idiots more bitching about Bouchard's turnover rather than Skinner's dog shit goaltending.
Post game interview loss with Skinner: "Yeah you know I still feel good about my game, I'm battling pretty well out there. I read books and listen to podcasts and I also meditate during commercial breaks."
Rinse and repeat.

Every f***ing time we have to hear about how a shot attempt on Skinner that goes in is always not his fault and has to do with some sort of random bullshit.

I used to think that goaltending coaches didn't have an effect. But we've seen Skinner start to change his game, likely due to coaching. For example, he no longer even attempts to butterfly slide laterally anymore (because he can't move more than an inch). So, instead of working on his athleticism and improving on that, he's resorted to lunging head first and diving arms first at cross creases instead of even attempting to utilize actual proper mechanics. He's been doing this for basically the last season. I have to think he's being told to do that.
And we saw him lunge again head first and look like a complete buffoon on that thompson goal. Yes there was a breakdown defensively, but our goalie is so ass he isn't even properly moving and reacting like an NHL starter should. I think this is coming from our coaching staff as they clearly dont care if he improves his athleticism or even loses weight.
RNH is the most backpacked and overrated player in the NHL. He plays worse defensively and offensively than J Skinner, but is revered. You can't say anything bad about him in most oilers circles because you will just get chastised.
He has zero compete. He's not even a good 3C at this point, imo. He should be 4c on this team.

Watched OTT/NYR on the weekend, fun game. Looks like Ottawa is a guarantee for entertaining hockey 'til the buzzer..

Notice how nobody goes to Skinner to console him. Straight off the ice as soon as possible. No Vinnie Desharnais around to be his friend. Or Woodcroft. Things are getting colder in Oil country folks. Cold shoulder. This has been going on for awhile and management not even detecting it or Drai being effusive with praise for the back up saying we all love Pickard in net, everybody does. Its hilarious and as if this org is being managed from some other continent. They have no idea whats going with the team.
Because guess who has been scouting and reviewing goalies here for us forever? The same coaching the goalies. He's all things goalie to this while being nothing.
Scratch further and the reason he's got tenure here is the UofA connection and the org figuring its a nice touch to have that UofA connection indefinitely. Its why he's here and planted here. Dustin Schwartz, career job.

I hope stewey was paying attention to the carpentry going on fixing the boards where the Zamboni crashed (WTF) Could be his next job. Ref looks at it waving this is shit work this just won't do, but they have to play the rest of the game and ignore it and hope for the best. Not even the bottom board was installed back properly. pucks going all over the place randomly.

Another game where this team made the other teams goalie look like a superstar.
Very sloppy and loose defensively.
Far too often this team plays like it just doesnt care enough to commit to playing defence.
Just a nightmare to watch...especially Bouchard. I know he scored but he is becoming one of the most unreliable D men on this team at crucial points in the game.
Why Knoblauch keeps playing him against the other teams best players is beyond me.
Thompson owned his ass in this game.
Stu was bad tonight. All over the place.
I would like to give the team the benefit of the doubt and suggest that this game had trouble written all over after that emotional game against Dallas.
I cant though. They need to start acting like a contending team more consistently.
Lastly...if Connor wants to be pissed then he should watch the game tape and see how many times he made a high risk low reward pass. He went from being brilliant against Dallas to being sloppy and mostly disinterested just 2 days later against one of the worst teams in the League.

Sure feels that way.
Either decisions from above or the players themselves. Like you said he could do no wrong last year. This year he has so many traits of the past coaches. Its just bizarre how every new coach comes in and team improves but after a season, its all the same.
