This needs to be talked about more. Fanbase is in denial rn. He's only 19 so there's plenty of time, but generational he is not.'

So we got Patrick Kane part deux. That is fine.
I really think it has more to do with the bench bosses than anything to this point. Richardson is still coaching for the late 90s and Bedard is a modern player. I think it's great that Richardson has been tinkering with linemates and deployment, helps show how broken his realatively conservative LR's style is, at least for a roster setting up to develop players.

KD needs to admit to the mistake or just admit it's time for an adjustment in style of play. This game of square-peg-round-hole is not helpful for the roster this year and next in my opinion.

I think one of the reasons Jones gets hammered is that he's the only one who recognizes and can do something about the back end being mostly useless in the attacking half of the ice besides the occasion aggressive decision to keep the puck in the zone. Usually they are just hyper conservative off the puck and keep it way too simple (since they have literally nothing to lose right now) with the puck.

The rebuild is not about Bedard... how is it square prg round hole? The focus of the talent. It is silly how many fans sole focus is Bedard. Yes, this thread is for him, but the rebuild itself isn't.

Their focus is more on building defense. They have 3 23 & under Dmen looking very good at the moment. They have what nobody thinks is better than a bottom 5 roster, in the middle teens of expected goals against and all.

It would be much worse for this teams future if it was just full offense like Montréal. The people who think Bedard needs to be generational would be happier with the scoring. I dont see the benefit though long term. That's the goal

I can't stand LR and think that the fanbase just hates on Jones because he's 1.5-2M overpaid(depending on who you ask)

It's not Jones's fault Bowman gave him that contract.

I'll also add that Jones was the only player trying to open up some ice in the attacking half last year. Sure he would ping it off some shinpads or into the logo, but it wasn't all his fault nobody knew what to do when the structure of either team changed or broke down a little. He's top pair and eats big minutes and can do things offensively, which Bedard needs from the back, he's fine.

I'm definitely not focused on Bedard overall, he's one part of the whole thing. I'm assuming he'll be hurt or banged up again once the injury train rolls through and he becomes a bigger target again. I was one of the few people that picked him under 70pts prior to last year and as long as the defense is playing as tight as they are off the puck, I'm not expecting generational production out of him.

Square-peg-round-hole is playing a tight structured defensive game when league scoring rate 5 on 5 is at it's highest in decades. This team isn't winning anything in a few years worrying about defense first, there are too few chances to experiment creatively in NHL games to be wasting years playing tight and going into turtle-mode just to stay in games.

It takes much longer to develop D than offence

It’s the reason we are building around the backend first just like we did last time. It’s the same reason this team went belly up in 2017 when Keith Seabrook and co showed their age and guys started to fall off a cliff

Couldn’t agree more. You don’t build like the Leafs or even the Oilers have. Then you are chasing down a D for half a decade looking for that piece

And he's doing this with 4th liners on his wing. Or in the case of Reichel, an AHLer.

Bedard is doing just fine. Kyle is failing him.

Frank would remedy much of the team's problems at the moment.

Why u gotta throw in the random shade towards Reichel? He’s actually been improving so far this season. You should be happy for him. I don’t get it. Instead you’re idk what but it’s not cool.

He's been abysmal. I don't know what "improvements" you're referring to.

Every metric says that he's currently the team's biggest liability. And he's been that bad while getting the easiest matchups of anyone on the team.

You guys seriously need to stop looking at the 6 points in 12 games. I'm telling you right now, it's not sustainable with his level of play. He's not ending the season with 40 points. It'll be around 20 while he's sheltered and a liability.

I'll be happy for him when he's off to play in Europe.

That was a good article. This quote stood out:

“I want to be able to say I found out how good I could possibly be,” he says. “However good that is, nobody knows. But I want to find out.”

He really looks more like a winger than a center to me. At the very least he should have started on the wing and moved to center after a year or two. Wouldn’t have been the first, and certainly not the last to have done so. Even a much bigger bodied Seguin was started out on the wing.
