Someone please tell me they actually interviewed the guy at some point. If not I don't want to hear them talking about selecting high character players again.

One of the most baffling rumours coming out of this. It's like Verbeek was so obsessed with secret keeping that he didn't even want to let the player he actually wanted know they were interested!

Will he develop a mean streak and learn to be physical or play as a tall skinny skill player
You never know but I doubt it. First and foremost he's a goal scorer. He has yet to fill out but so far hasn't really displayed a willingness to get involved physically.

It's more about potential and trajectory than what they are today. After watching what he can do as a scrawny kid, the Ducks clearly see huge potential when he rounds out his frame at 6'4 215. They are all on different tracks, clearly this scouting staff sees Sennecke as someone who will continue to improve in leaps and bounds.
I mean I agree with this post 100%. There's a lot of potential but the Ducks had the 3rd overall pick. You can't draft a winger 3rd overall just because you like his trajectory. I mean you can but it's probably not very smart.

For real when will the scouts who are paid to do this listen to you?

I’m a fan of this pick, I can see the potential and that could be a beastly top line we have in a few years.

Why exactly is he so risky if he’s a great skater with good hands? Work ethic? Hockey IQ?
History of production. He really took off in the second half of the season and only recently had his huge growth spurt. If his development curve was a chart his recent play would be a vertical line.

Hockey guys are naturally conservative though, so most would want to see it for longer before investing this high a pick. It's a huge swing.

One thing I like about this pick is that they are aiming for potential, not floor.

With a #3 pick, you should be getting a star.

They think he will be. We’ll see.

Oh boy.

Over 50 games under PPG and third overall pick. Certainly got to hope his end of thr season and playoffs is taking a big step and not just an outlier.

This is interesting given what madden said about how our organization view guys perceived as later risers last week

Madden said that they are for sure drafting the one they think is the best player available. He said they've drafted for need twice in the past 10 years, both forced by the GM, and neither pick worked. He also said that they're not drafting the best player right now, but the one they think will be the best player in 5 years.

Personally I like that our scouting org has their own list and they take swings at players they really believe in like Lindholm and Sennecke. He's their guy and they wanted him above everyone else.

Looking at Sennecke 2-year OHL career in the regular season, it's meh.

It's possible that Sennecke finally had his mind sync with his body in the latter part of the season. He nearly grew 5 inches in the past two seasons. (Source)

There's lots of potential with Sennecke, but there is also a lot of risk if based upon his last 12 regular season games and playoffs.

Since he's a Duck, then I hope he continues that torrid pace next year in the OHL.

This really isn’t that surprising, the Ducks (Madden specifically?) have always valued 2nd half of draft years and playoffs. The Ducks definitely loved his 10g-12a in 16 games in the post season to top off his strong second half.
