Beauty goal from Kyle Connor

Miromanov wayyy overcommits and leaves Connor a gaping lane- props to him for seeing it, executing, and finishing, but that goal doesn’t exist without AHL level defending.

Feels like we’re seeing fewer end-to-end goals in general, because 98% of NHL dmen don’t do this anymore. Sorry to be that dude, but watch it again and tell me it isn’t mostly awful defending.
Could be, still looks nice even if playing against lesser d.

didn't KC drop a bit in his draft year?
I dont think so. He was pretty highly rated coming out of college. He put up 80 points in 56 games as a 17 year old with the Youngstown Phantoms. Bob McKenzie had him ranked 13th in his final rankings. Most draft rankings had him going in the 10-15 range. Absolutely got robbed for the Hobey Baker in his final year before turning pro in 2016. Jimmy Vesey somehow won it over Connor.

Is it really that good of a goal? If that was McDavid, the D would have grabbed and hooked him, otherwise he would be scoring a goal every shift with this level of defensive effort.

A goal like this one is always a combination of a couple of factors.
The raw talent and speed by Conner is in full views.
The breakdown of the Calgary D is also in full view.
What I think separates the great goal scores and the rest of the league players is Conner recognised the Calgary defensive collapse and took full advantage in real time.
I think the great players in the NHL biggest advantage is not just talent but the ability to make quick decisions at speed and take full advantage of any mistake.

Shity defense or not Connor beating both of them and then roofing the backhand from in tight takes alot of speed and talent . If it was easy to do you would see alot more goals like this one.

This.

KC reads the gap and straight-line accelerates through it before they can react. Then he only has to beat an NHL goalie with a top-shelf backhand from in so tight that he's already picked Vladař's pocket and left a mint on his pillow.

The ability to read the D and goalie and plan (and execute) his moves in real-time while skating as fast as KFC can skate is what has made him a perennial 30+ and sometime 40+ scorer since he became an NHL full-timer.

Yeah, it's crap D, but it ain't only crap D. Only so many skaters in the league can do what he does.

It was a flat-out beautiful goal. Half expected the Flames to tap their sticks.
