DJ Moore's faith Caleb Williams will be 'superstar' helped fuel desire for new deal with Bears
DJ Moore has give the Bears stability at a position the has long eluded the franchise. In drafting Caleb Williams, the Bears returned the favor by providing Moore with a quarterback whose “superstar” rise he wants to be part of.

I always hesitate to use the word "diva" because, in general, I'm fine with guys trying to get the most money. At the same time its genuinely unique to see how DJ Moore is this good without a major ego.

Interesting experiment. Guessing it means they don't see a ton of value in him as a WR, but are interested in using him as a gadget player and kick returner.
Premature reaction based on the first preseason game, but Poles 3rd round vs 5th round results so far are fun:
3rd round:
Velus Jones Jr. - Probably a specialist rather than a starter receiver going into year 3
Zacch Pickens - Not looking great so far in preseason year 2
Kiran Amegadjie - Injured
5th round:
Braxton Jones - Good LT, going into year 3 as a starter
Terell Smith - CB4, could possibly start but is blocked by a really strong secondary
Austin Booker - Project, but will probably get playing time year 1

Plenty of talk about bringing back Ngakoue. Genuinely no clue why people would want that. His pass rush numbers didn't really improve after the Sweat acquisition unlike the other players on the line, and he's a complete liability against the run. And people want to bring him back AFTER a bad injury? He had a case for worst edge in the league last year, and now he's one year older and coming off a broken ankle.
Gervon Dexter continues to get mentions in training camp, getting into the backfield both on runs and pass plays. I think he'll take a big step this season.

Jones Jr. has been plenty good as a kick returner. For players with more than 10 kick returns in a season, he had the 5th highest average return in 2022, and highest average in 2023. He's been a bad punt returner.
We'll see if he's still a good kick returner with the new rules.
As to the pass rush, it will probably come down to Dexter. If he's better than Jones was last year, the pass rush will probably be at least average. The QB pressure numbers improved vastly after the Sweat acquisition. I don't think Ngakoue would make a lick of difference if they sign him again.

The OL *still* has plenty of question marks, hidden or otherwise. Could have used that 3rd round pick wasted on Jones on a center/guard.

On one of the myriad of Bears podcasts on youtube (it happened to be the top of the search hits), a sportswriter or blogger of the Lions was interviewed. When asked by the hosts why Detroit was content to let Swift go, being unable to count on him being available (always becoming "injured" by some point in a season) was the rationalization given. At the end, when asked who would be the preferred RB, Montgomery or Swift, the guy circled back to who could make himself available at game time.
If the Lions are satisfied with Montgomery, good for them, but I believe Swift has higher upside and impact ability. So I prefer Swift.

As for Velus Jones/RB experiment, I kind of like it. He was always built more like a RB and not a WR, so it's worth a shot. A little desperate, sure, but the dude is dynamic with the ball in his hands. So worth while gamble.

I'll take a poor man's Cordarrelle Patterson out of Velus if used properly. Can't trust his hands catching the ball but it's not like he has big fumble concerns.

Kmet and Moore shouldve caught those balls tbh. This offense is so deep, I'm digging the swift/herbert team

Only question mark for me is the offensive line. If they can hold their own, this offense is going to be very, very good.
