I’m choosing to believe they’re letting him gage his value, they’ll franchise him and resign him this summer
Worked out great for Montgomery.

I fully expect Poles to pay two shitty corners for more than what it would have cost to keep JJ similar to how the Roquan situation played out .

A 2nd for JJ is pretty good honestly.
Mystery box joke from Family Guy

Sweat will get signed (I mean the Bears have the highest cap room in the league. They wouldn't do this just to let him walk) but it sucks it wasn't for Chase Young who is younger and just about to hit his prime. But I don't blame Poles for not acquiring another Chase again.

Sweat has been great for the Commanders for years now. It'll be interesting how he'll look when he needs to be The Guy on the D-line.

It's hard to find an edge as good as Sweat in the draft, especially outside of the top 10. Obviously if they fail to re-sign him, this trade is a catastrophe. Otherwise I think it's a good trade.

The Bears traded a guaranteed top 40 pick for a pending FA defender who wants big $ deal and has never shown to be worth $ he wants.

LOL at this joke of a franchise.

Poles/Eberflus is as bad as Emery/Trestman and Pace/Nagy

This trade is shit unless he's extended.

Even then he wants big $ deal as if he is some elite talent.

They'll probably get that second back anyways trading Johnson. And they'll also say finding an elite corner in a draft is much easier than finding an elite pass rusher (which in theory is very true... but can they actually find one? We'll see... but I have my doubts with this staff).

LOL they are saying other teams offered less and that teams were leary of acquiring him without extension making offers contingent on that

Then Ryan f***ing Poles called them up and said "I gotta an offer for you"

They will but they could have signed him for free in 10 weeks

No one thinks that

The question is, why would he sign with the Bears? Aside from them massively overpaying him?

The Bears are in the "nobody wants to play here, so we have to overpay" category of teams right now.

Because he gets guaranteed money now

Then put him on the non-exclusive franchise tag. Worst case, that re-coups you two higher 1st rounders.

He's obviously getting extended.

I would have preferred Chase Young though I think.

Doing this and trading Johnson is a half-measure though.

Same weirdness with trading Roquan and trading for Claypool.

Offsetting holes mid-season serves little purpose.
