Im not sure what people want to do though. You can't just run it back with Fields again. I mean I guess you can, but he isn't good.
You most certainly can run it back with Fields because the alternates don't look promising. If you bring him back, it's now an open competition between Fields and Bagent.

Yep, I don't see what all his exaltation is about? If The Bears have the number one pick I really hope the they don't take him.

This is, supposedly, a deep QB draft class so the best thing to do is trade the first pick again and take the best QB that lands in one of their picks.
In this scenario, perhaps the most QB needy franchise in the league decided Williams/Maye were such uninspiring prospects that they'd rather run it back with a 4th year QB with "potential", an undrafted year 2 QB with supposed arm strength issues, and/or QB3+ in the draft.

Which team is trading value to get a shot at the top QB prospects in that case?

It really all depends. If we get first overall with our pick, then that would mean Fields helmed back-to-back worst teams in the league. I fully know that that's not all him, but how many good quarterbacks can you think of where that was the case barring significant injury time? Especially in a draft where there is a presumptive clear best QB option and where many are already calling it the Caleb Williams draft, there isn't an organization alive that'd have the stones to turn that down even if they have meaningful qualms. The reason why we got away with trading down last year was because there wasn't a clear #1 QB, though I'm expecting the eventual narrative to be that the Bears Bear'd it up by sticking with Fields while letting Richardson and Stroud pass them up (though we can all laugh on Young very early on seeming like a massive overreach by the Panthers).

If we get first overall from the Carolina pick, then for us to still pass on Williams we'd need some damn concrete proof that Fields is the guy and not merely someone capable for a good play here and there or a couple good games in a row. Our offense looked pretty okay with a nobody this past week, which is more than can be said for the majority of games started by Fields to date (and, again, not all on him, coaching utilization is obviously big). Barring us going on a tear and either making the playoffs or just barely missing, if Carolina gives us first overall we're taking Caleb.

Oh, and the Bears would ruin him anyway, so not like it'd matter.

The QBs this year certainly look a lot better than next year. Thats for sure. I think you need to accept that all prospects have warts and pick your guy this year.

Fields isn't the guy. Thats the answer. Now who or how do you replace him maybe has different answers, but if you run it back again its another lost season.

Better D and OL play isn't going to make a guy be able to catch and release or maintain the pocket or get balls out on time. Its just who he is.

Drew Allar sucks. The 25 class looks terrible at QB.

I can't be the only one that sees an entirely different coaching plan with Bagent, than they had with Fields?
I don't think it was as different as some believe. But they did have to replace the 6-8 QB runs you'd normally want for Fields with some other stuff. I think the game looked a lot different because Bagent got off the first or second option quicker and settled for the 5yd checkdowns. Fields tends to hang onto the ball and hopes something further downfield opens up. That said, every week the game plan changes based on the opponent and maybe the look that the Raider D presented was a lot different than previous opponents.

I feel like they had a lot more quick routes and slants. But I didn't watch the whole game.

I certainly noticed a much better pass protection which is another indictment of Fields as Bagent was getting ball out quickly and recognizing pre-snap blitz

Both things that Fields struggles with.

Also, Bagent was progressing thru his reads and didn't just look to take off

I don't see arm strength issues.

Longest pass was like 17 yards. Let’s not act like BAGent is a replacement.

He did highlight things he does better than fields like pocket awareness and movement. His catch and release times on quick screens was super apparent.

This is all armchair shit anyway. I mean I’m addicted to sports and probably could go on ESPN and clown 99% of those idiots in knowledge just on pure study and osmosis alone, but working in it is entirely different. Who knows what pros think.

Wanny says that if Bagent has a big game against the Chargers - he would consider listening to offers for Fields. He didn't say this was likely - but if it happens.

Atlanta keeps coming up as a possible eventual destination. He is from Georgia, they need a QB and otherwise have a pretty solid team.

If you can get a second you move him, but no one is trading that much for a hurt and inconsistent qb

Against the packers that’s all the bears did. The difference is fields doesn’t throw quickly so it looks different

Never said he needed to.

You said you didn't see arm issues. I said his longest completion was 17 yards so of course you wouldn't see it.
I didn't mean that I didn't see the issue last Sunday only. I didn't see an issue in camp or pre-season or the scouting report on him.

If the Bears thought he can't complete a ball 30 yards downfield, he wouldn't have interested them.

They literally took him out for the hail Mary attempt to end the half

Against the Vikings, his throws downfielf were quite clear weaker than avg. He can improve still

I don't think injuries are an issue - he will be fine. Most QB's get little nicks and things that make them miss games here and there. But the inconsistent part, for sure. The one hope you might have is that other teams might think the Bears misused Fields?

Personally I don't move him for a 2nd (or worse) right now. It's not worth giving up these last 10 games to see for sure what you have in him and/or Bagent. I know many of you have decidedly gone to one side of the fence or the other on Justin - but I haven't and I'm not sure the Bears have either.

Bagent doesn't have great arm strength. Those outside the hash throws are a bit further in the NFL and would look different. Even on his longer throws in this video.. max like 25-30 air yards.. they aren't rockets.

Doesn't mean he can't be a decent backup.

At least Kramer gets a shot and not the awful at center Whitehair. But this line rises up and down and Patrick made things better with line shifts and blitz pickups when he was playing
