I'd be willing to buy Fields defenders if their argument was merely that he hasn't been given enough to properly evaluate him. Sure, he's got **** on his plate, hard to turn that into a soufflé.

But I will never get why people are annointing him as an elite QB in the making based on what we've seen so far. He has a handful of highlight reel plays a game that are surrounded by failed drives aplenty in usually multiscore losses where it never really feels like we're in it or on the verge of being in it.

That's obviously not all on him, but I need more than wishful thinking and a good game or two a season to be optimistic.

This is a really good post.

I mean Fields is all projection. He's big, he's fast. He has a good arm.

Problem is none of those 3 things make you a good NFL QB. Generally its a little bit of that and mostly mental.

This was never going to be a good team. Fields has a lot of work to do if he’s going to show that he’s the guy. Given the strength of the qb class moving on from him has to be a serious option

Fields wasn't close to perfect, but the play calling was also complete trash. Absolutely nothing down field in the first half. Your off season prize get, breaks off 2 big plays, then you don't use him until the 4th quarter on a 2 point conversion attempt. Screen, after screen, after screen.

Not good, obviously.

The Bears look to be about as bad as last season in the same areas - stopping the run and getting to the QB on defense and pretty much everything on offense. Love didn't look like a HOF'er but he looked better the Fields in everything except running.

And let's not ignore the coaching staff. The Packers had a game plan that confused and overwhelmed the both the Bears offense and defense.

Even the special teams started the game with a 15 yard penalty.

Talk about a total team loss. Embarrassing.

Pathetic ownership
Pathetic management
Pathetic coaching
Pathetic so called talent

Bears offense boo'd off field

Poles the OL guru.

Eberflus/Alan Williams the new Marc Trestman (at least his offense could score)/Mel Tucker.

Why did they let Sean Desai go?

The inability of scheming guys open is frustrating. Watch any other teams they get guys open. We will see how they adjust on both sides of the ball going forward. Only one week in but it feels just so damn depressing already.

Poles should be given Emery treatment and sent packing with his failure coaches

Or are Poles/Coaches/Fields/etc. still off limits from facing criticism?
Eberflus wasn't chosen by Poles, The McCaskey's hired/consulted Bill Polian to pick the GM & HC.
Poles was named GM 1/25/22 Eberflus was hired 1/27/22

Is it too soon to say the Bears should have drafted Jalen Carter?

The Bears defense is the problem, but let's just blame Fields.....

Poles will have leeway because he didn't draft Fields (that was Pace) so even if Fields isn't the answer he can draft HIS guy next draft.

But today wasn't on him. It was on Getsy and the defense.

Both lines need another draft or two of talent injected in to them. But even so, today was a big disappointment. It felt like a step back from last year, when they usually were competitive.

Absolutely. Criticism should go to Fields but most should go to Getsy, who was flat out embarrassing today. He simply refused to put Fields in position to be successful. Why keep calling the WR bubble when the Packers were reading it as if they knew it was coming? For all the talk of Fields/Moore connection, why did Moore only have two receptions?

With that said....THAT DEFENSE WAS TRASH today. Everybody gets equal criticism.

What did Dexter and Pickens do today? Judging by the boxscore, almost nothing...

And Velus Jones is only still on the roster (but not even returning KOs) because he's Poles' mistake.

Then, there's Chase Claypool...

The Bears were once something like 76-57-6 or somethimg very similiar. Then the 90s came and the Bears have been 19-49 against the Packers since. That is an impossible level of putrid for a pro franchise to be against another franchise and yet here we are.

Curse George Halas for talking the NFL into bringing the Packers back into the league.

I can't get over that INT that Fields threw. That's absolute mickey mouse rookie shit that is completely unacceptable for a 3rd year QB.

Can we convince Goodell to move GB to the AFC North, Balt to AFC east, Miami to AFC South, and Indy to NFC North?

Am I being serious? 5% serious.
