Alot of legs right now about Kevin Warren being the next President/CEO of the Chicago Bears.

I’d actually be surprised that he’d want an NFL franchise presidency gig. He’s extremely powerful and well-compensated in his role as Big Ten Commissioner, that’s a role I’d almost think you wouldn’t move on from unless a major pro league commissionership opened up.

Happy New Year everybody!

Ok so the Bears play at noon today. The Lions have everything to play for obviously, though their play seems to have slipped a bit the last 2 weeks.

In the college world, Bryce Young and CJ Stroud both came up big in their bowl games, and should have only strengthened their draft positions.

A Bears loss today guarantees a top 4 pick, and top 4 pick guarantees one of Young, Stroud, Anderson or Carter being available to them.

At this time I want them to draft Will Anderson. But if that falls through, trade down options are nice to have. Or if some desperate team makes a crazy offer you cant refuse. But its hard pass on the potential pro bowl DE for the next 5-8 years.

If the College Bowl games showed us anything, I'm actually more in on Jalen Carter more than anything. That guy caused alot of attention with his play in that game whereas Anderson was kind of invisible. Again only one game so that does not make a season, but you can see why Carter is highly regarded. I still question whether Anderson fits in a 4-3 (he would be a terrific 3-4 player, but not sure about a 4-3). You draft Carter and get a guy like Daron Payne in the offseason, you are set in the interior for years to come.

Bryce Young and CJ Stroud strengthened their cases to be top of the draft with their performances in the bowl games yesterday - which obviously is a good thing for the Bears "trade down" possibility. On the other hand, I was less impressed with Will Anderson and Jalen Carter - Anderson was pretty much invisible and Carter was far from doing an Aaron Donald impersonation.

I've wavered back and forth between using the pick to take the top d-lineman - be it either Anderson or Carter - or using the pick to trade down for additional draft capital. Normally I'm a quality over quantity guy but there are certain situations where quantity is the best move and the Bears talent level is so poor that it brings the quantity option into viability. Based on the games I watched yesterday where the QB's shone and the d-linemen not so much - I think I've cautiously stepped down off the fence on the side of trading down (providing the package is good enough - of course).

No happy new year from either of you grumpies? lol

I agree Carter could fit the Bears defense, maybe in a Tommie Harris sort of way. But I also agree with Ebony that neither had a great bowl appearance. How much do you want to put on the one game? I know Carter's consistency has been questioned more than Anderson's and he didn't really do much to dispel that yesterday.

Could it be that Young and Stroud could go 1-2?

The Bears really need to lose these last 2 games to lock down on their options. Teams get crazy desperate when they have their potential franchise QB in their sights. GM's view this as their job saver and will do whatever they need to do to get their guy.

Trade down and take the extra picks and take the tackle from northwestern. This will not be a one year rebound.
I wouldn't be against taking him.

But I also view this as way different than the Hawks rebuild. The Bears I think could be competitive next year between their draft picks and whatever they use that 120 mil in capspace on. Where the Hawks will suck for at least 2 or 3 more years - even if they get Connor Bedard.

Agreed no Gm and coach will get 5 years to rebuild in the nfl. Trade down get extra picks and be selective in free agency. Mediocre players get paid way to much.

The FA defensive tackle class this year is really solid (even past Daron Payne), as opposed to the FA edge class, which is lackluster. I think even if the players are 50-50 (I personally think Anderson is better), that should tilt it towards Anderson.

Also, broadcast just said that the Bears lead the league in opening-drive TDs. That's insane.

Between the rest of this game and next weeks, the single-season rushing yards record for QBs is looking very doable.
