Why would a defensive coach be your #1 option?

Asking, not fighting.

Vrabel was a TE coach for Cleveland. This isn't a Flores situation. He knows BOTH sides of the ball which is crucial for a coach. Plus I trust him to assemble a staff much more than yet another 1st year head coach who might prove to be in over his head. Johnson can be O'Connell. He can also be another McDaniels. In either case it's a risky move. Plus the Bears have already hinted they are looking for an experienced coach this time. I guess having 1st year HC for a few years now and falling flat on their faces is enough to scare the McCaskeys.

Who says Ben Johnson can't be a leader of men? He's worked under what people seem to think is the best leader of men in the NFL in Dan Campbell. He's had the ultimate mentor to learn from.

He's been a huge part in resurrecting Jared Goff's career, after Sean McVay paid heavily to get rid of him.

Let's be honest here. We all see the same deer in headlights crap with Caleb that we saw with Fields and Trubisky. He is a rookie and of course will have the opportunity to work through that.

Why not give him the absolute best chance by putting him with the best offensive mind available?

Just pay the man, Virginia. Stop being cheap.

Johnson should be asking for a deal better than Rhule at $60 mill over 7 years. Thus should be at $9-$10 mill per.
should see between 5-7 openings for a HC. Though most of the openings the QB situation wouldn’t be great.

Bears 2025 schedule:

HOME
Detroit Lions
Green Bay Packers
Minnesota Vikings
Dallas Cowboys
New York Giants
Cleveland Browns
Pittsburgh Steelers
New Orleans Saints

AWAY
Detroit Lions
Green Bay Packers
Minnesota Vikings
Philadelphia Eagles
Washington Commanders
Baltimore Ravens
Cincinnati Bengals
San Francisco 49ers
Las Vegas Raiders

Holy f**king hell, look at that road schedule. Kindly f**K yourself, NFL.

Playoffs is most definitely a long shot, even if the Bears do get Ben Johnson. And after last nights game against Minnesota, Ben Johnson better be the option for the Bears.

He’s a brilliant play caller, but obviously the bears want a leader of men though!

The schedule is set in stone year after year except for three games based on where teams finish in their division. Six games against your own division, three against a set NFC division that rotates annually, three against an AFC division that rotates annually and then a few against others who placed 4th in their division like the Bears did. It looks like AFC North/NFC East this year for the Bears and then Niners, Raiders, and Saints for the common division finish. The divisional rotation alternates home & away as it cycles around, so the Bengals game is in Cincinnati this time, the next time the Bears have the AFC North, they will host the Bengals.

That road schedule is brutal, but the home schedule isn't too bad.

So much turnover and change from year to year, though, so who knows how it ends up being at the end of the day.

Pederson out in Jacksonville as expected, but they're keeping their GM. I have no idea if that is good or bad for the Jaguars chances of getting Ben Johnson.

Daboll is apparently not being fired. Not sure how he keeps a job. 3-14 this year and 6-11 the year before.

So I think I read somewhere that if the Lions got the bye, which they obviously did, that Ben Johnson can start interviewing now. Anyone know if that is true and if so if any interviews are expecting in the near future?

Actually ended up tuning into the game during the Keenan Allen interception drive yesterday. Good to see them get a win and get that monkey off their backs going into the offseason.

Given his stated want for alignment between HC and GM, I can't imagine keeping Baalke is a major plus. Still likely tons of money in the Jacksonville job.

So they can interview now, but technically can't hire him until Detroit is eliminated. Right?

Zac Taylor is out. That's a real possibility for Ben Johnson if the Bengals open their purse strings. They have a history of not doing that though.

Well that's not great, but hopefully the Bengals are too cheap to pay them which they very possibly could be.

Burrow/Chase vs CW/Moore/Odunze. Can definitely see the appeal of the Cincy job over Chicago from Johnson's perspective.

Early in the day still, but the talk about all these HC and GM openings this off season seems wildly overblown.

Daboll is still with the Giants.
Taylor is still with the Bengals.
Baalke is still with the Jaguars.

Saints, Bears, Patriots, Jets, Jaguars looking for head coaches. Only Jets looking for GM.

I edited it. Turned out it was false. Their DC is out, Taylor stays.

If you are into advanced stats at all, D'Andre Swift finished the season with -174 rush yards over expected.

If you're not into advanced stats at all, D'Andre Swift finished the season with 5 broken tackles and 1.6 yards after contact per attempt.

This is a really good RB draft. If Poles is still the GM, he needs to admit that the Swift signing was a massive bust and go out and get a new RB relatively early in the draft. Likely round 3.
