I don’t understand at all how according to analytics going for that is the right call.


I’d kick that every single time.
It basically comes down to knowing ahead of time what you need, and upping the percentages of a win as opposed to going to OT. If you get it, you can tie the game with 2 field goals, and another TD wins the game (assuming the extra point doesn't get blocked, which is a given for 31 teams in the league).

If you don't get it, you need a TD plus another 2 point conversion, which has around a 50% chance of succeeding.
