I have never turned off as many games before that 3rd period buzzer as I have this year.

Such an awful product to sit through most nights, especially with Hampus and Mac out

I've been a fan going on 37 years this March. I've never gone to bed rather than finish watching a game more often than I have this year. Sure part of it is I'm getting older but the bulk of it is I don't want to waste time watching this team get whipped when I can get some rest.

If they showed some fight I'd stay up but too many nights they just don't seem to give a damn.

I think something is wrong somewhere in that locker room. They all say the same things- we know we have to be better, our effort wasn't what it should have been blah blah blah. Then they go out and do the same f***ing things every game- lazy passes, lazy penalties, not moving their feet, brain dead decisions with & without the puck. And all of these things are things they can control, that's what gets me. They can't help that they're missing their 2 best defensemen due to injury, it wasn't their fault Swayman's contract situation went sideways (yes it was a distraction) and it isn't their fault Sweeney's head is up his ass when it comes to drafting, making trades & signing UFAs but the other stuff (effort & decision making) is absolutely under their control. There is no excuse for it. None.

E Lindholm has sucked this year, but he isn't going to get less sucky playing with Walhstrom and Brazeau.
Walhstrom is the classic 1st round bust and Brazeau has nice hands in and around the net, but what else does he bring, big, slow, not physical, not a good backchecker.
This team is approaching the "let's trade Joe Thorton" dysfunction of the early millennium.

When did Lindholm play with Brazeau?

Brazz, for some unknown reason, has been dropped to the 4th line last couple of games. And no PP time, even though Pasta is still the only player with more PP goals. One of the best forwards in terms of hockey IQ. He is big and slow. But, he is physical. and he does backcheck well. Jones and Beecher got more ice time last night.

I don't get it.

Poitras was a minus 3. He struggled along the boards with bigger and faster players He isn’t slow but his skating is awkward. For now play Poitras limited C minutes and pp1. His creativity and quick thinking is awesome however the skating and strength needs improvement. The 2nd line was hemmed in most of the night. That would be worrisome against the Sens.

Like Lohrei, Poitras is a work in progress. He will get better- he's smart, has a strong work ethic and isn't finished growing.

Now if he can just stay healthy :crossfing

I don't get it either. Is he in Sacco's doghouse for some reason? :dunno:

NEWARK, N.J. — Sheldon Keefe was steaming.

The New Jersey coach halted things midway through Wednesday’s morning skate and let his Devils have it.

Keefe was unhappy with the tempo of the session, especially considering his team was riding a four-game skid.
His message, which was loud and contained some adult words, resonated.

The Devils reported for the evening skate and let the Bruins have it.

New Jersey got back on the winning track by slapping a 5-1 loss on the Bruins at Prudential Center.

Boston (23-20-6) led, 1-0, after the first period, but couldn’t overcome a miserable second in which the Devils (27-17-6) overcame the loss of their starting goalie, tilted the ice in their favor, scored four times, and never looked back.

“They made a good push in the second, but some of that was on us, the way that we executed coming out of our zone, we weren’t clean, we mishandled pucks,” said Bruins interim coach Joe Sacco. “So, we’ve got to do a better job coming out of our zone, making sure that we can handle their pressure. We can’t turn the puck over that many times. And the second period especially, you got the long change, they’re a really good second-period team. We had talked about that before, and we didn’t execute well enough there. We left our goalie in a tough spot.”

If not for said goalie, Jeremy Swayman, the damage could have been much worse.

Sacco gave Swayman (25 saves) the third period off as he was “dealing with something minor,” but the coach wouldn’t rule him out for Thursday’s game against the Senators.

“We thought it would be best the way the game was going to get him out there after the second period and we’ll see how he is [Thursday],” Sacco said.

The Bruins never recovered as the Devils swarmed the Boston end and put relentless pressure on Swayman, who kept his club in the game.

The Bruins goalie had a handful of highlight saves. He twice robbed Timo Meier on one-timers, once with the left pad and once with the glove.

The Devils were so connected, they hemmed the Bruins in their own end for nearly four minutes during one stretch. Boston failed to get the puck out several times even as New Jersey rotated fresh bodies several times.

“When me and [Andrew] Peeke got stuck there for three minutes, three-plus minutes, [Swayman] made a couple big saves,” said Nikita Zadorov. “There was a couple of times [he made] backdoor saves. He kept us in the game. He’s the last guy to blame in this room. He’s been playing lights out for us. So, we owe him for sure. We’ve got to go up there and play harder in front of him.”

Geekie pointed to poor execution as the root of Boston’s problems.

“I think we’re trying to find an answer in here and what we’re doing is not good enough. We know it,” he said. “I mean, it’s embarrassing, frankly, just the way that we’re letting these games slip away from us and there’s not too many of these left. So, we know the position we’re in and what it’s going to take to climb out of it. So, just try to get back on the horse tomorrow.”

We're about to see who the real fans in here are, because all signs point to a period of time where things aren't exactly rosie ruzicka all over for potentially a few years.

Most of us of a certain age lived through the mid 90s/early 2000s when it was pretty tough sledding with the coach and goalie carousel among other dysfunctions and we're still here. Maybe the ranks thin out a bit, but I also don't bedgrudge anyone the decision to walk away from the coming moan-fest that is about to begin (I mean really begin- it's kind of tame right now).

Got to watch that live last night - I might need to pour bleach in my eyes to wash this one away.

Decent 1st period , nice 1st goal and then all downhill from there.

Thought Zadorov was BRUTAL , w/o Sway this might have 10-1 .

Well I guess I was due to attend a Devils Bruins game where the Bruins got a beat down, I had a good run watching the Bruins beat up on the Devils for the past decade or so….i kinda expected it to go pretty much exactly how it did unfortunately.

Yet Poitras was a minus 3. The first line stood out to me. Calling out Poitras is.a dangerous thing around here. lol.

On both goals allowed at even strength you can see Poitras really doesn't know what he should be doing. Of course, it's a tough task to figure out what ring to be in in this circus.

Try not to question why Sacco/Sweeney make the decisions they do.

Makes life much more enjoyable lol.

Whole season has been a head scratcher.

Team can't score. Let's keep our skilled guys down in the AHL.
PP is worst in the league. Let's keep running the same units out & take Brazz off the PP.

List goes on and on and on and on.

I don't think Charlie is the right person to lead any kind of remake of the front office and team. He seems too deferential to Neely and Sweeney and not confident enough of his authority to make those personnel decisions even if he does not have their hockey resumes. He seems to have a middle manager persona.

Unfortunately, I don't know if we should expect ownership to bring in an experienced top exec from outside. The organization has remained very insular for the most part. It is actually surprising that Chiarelli was handed the keys. I'm not saying these are options, but as examples I don't expect to see the equivalents of Jim Rutherford taking over Vancouver or John Davidson in Columbus. I'm not sure who the great outside candidates to be new major domo would be but there is always somebody out there. Has to have experience in that position, that would be one of my firm criteria.

Ownership does not seem that hands on anymore - so who is making these top down changes if it's not punted down to Charlie? They'd have to really bottom out and as bad as this season is looking, I'm not sure it will meet the level needed to, erm, wake up the bear. "Missing the playoffs" is not the same as finishing bottom 5-10 in the league and seeing the rink half empty.
Great post, nothing speaks louder than empty seats.

I know we fans have been treated to, for the better part of 15 years, a very sound product that entertains, can only be one winner and there has been playoff disappointments and some blown playoff opportunities but for the most part, I`m a pretty satisfied Bruins fan

I don`t think you blow up this team, I think they can ice, once again, a very competitive team next year if they go about things the right way this summer. Biggest issue is, I don`t believe Sweeney and Cam know how to do that

I`ll take heat here but I`d ask Marchand if he`s going to be interested in signing next year, if not, I look at the list of , I believe 8 teams he would move to and see if a deal can`t be had. Bold move, difficult conversation but now`s the time IMO

I move Freddy, I poke around for Carlo takers too.

I`ve flipped on Geekie, I`d re-sign him and Lohrei and that is literally it from this team

I waive Wahlstrom/Jones and call up some kids and let`s go, take our lumps coming down the stretch

I don`t want some NHL retreads, I want some fresh thinkers calling the shots for this team but doubt that will happen

Hey, let`s give Big Z the Prez gig, just let Bergy learn on the fly as GM

Everything you said sounds so true. Not sure what the fix will be.

You know my opinion of him. However this season I give him more leeway than usual. He's 37 and coming off of 3 surgical procedures in one summer. Nobody not even an elite athlete can recover & return to form quickly after going through that I don't care who they are. By now he's almost certainly dinged up as well.

If the team was playing better I'd cut his minutes 5x5 and keep him off of the PK. Unfortunately they're not so Sacco has to keep riding him.

Speaking more about the post-game comments. "Yeah, that was a bad penalty to take. I can't be doing that at that stage of the game." Until the next game.

They've traded draft picks for years. The ones they kept largely haven't landed at all. So then you need to go to the UFA market and overpay, because you don't have picks or prospects to trade for a viable NHL player.

Yes, it was one game but this team is cooked, There is something going on in the room for sure.

Trade Coyle and Carlo for assets. See if Marchand will move in his UFA year. He'll likely get a high pick in return.

Play the young kids and stockpile draft picks and start to rebuild. There's no amount of makeup or beer googles that is going to make this team worth having in your home.
