Status quo. Teams are low balling Vancouver. Dundon is a cheapy. The Devils don't have the space. The contract is an issue. The age is an issue. Character issues. Tough sell.

The Rangers offer is the same offer Vancouver accepted for Horvat. We don't know the Rangers pick protection. Roster player, prospect and a first round pick. Top 12 protection for Horvat.

I would take that deal for Kreider.

yknow, we have a guy just sitting around doing nothing that's better than Lindgren. we could trade Lindgren and just play him.

Yeah but that’s what happens with a limited market and an untenable situation.

Vancouver is going to get bent, it’s just a question of how bent. Not to different from Buffalo with Eichel though they did well considering the situation and his NMC hadn’t kicked in yet but in a different scenario they would have gotten back way more.
 
Even if it's a minuscule amount, it's very easy to understand why the Aquilini's would step in and stop any deals that want them to retain money for 5 more seasons. You only get 3 spots for retention, and it makes it very difficult for teams to make future moves if you're limited with the financial flexibility it affords. It made things really complicated for San Jose with all of the recent moves they made, but they ended up making it work.

I get why Drury wants them to take on salary because for the Rangers, adding in another long-term contract makes it challenging for them moving forward even with the cap increase. It makes it essential to move on from any of Kreider, Panarin, Trocheck or Zibanejad prior to next season. Kreider has the M-NTC, and Trocheck's contract shifts to a M-NTC this summer. Panarin and Zibanejad both have NMCs. Regardless, they're limited in who they can move and to where.

Kreider probably makes the most sense with the amount we have on the Ws in the pipeline. I don't think it's that easy in the larger picture.
 
To take the next step the Rangers need a nasty motherf***er in their leadership group. All our guys are wannabe Lady Byng winners. You need that edge. Would like to see Drury get this done on his terms. The team's newfound commitment to defense and physical play adding JT would be huge. We need him to get in Barkov and Matty T's faces.

I'm no Drury fan/defender, but complaining about the 165th draft pick - who has already exceeded expectations for that slot by simply playing an NHL game and scoring a goal (and a playoff goal 😈) - is strange. If the Devils drafted him, the complaints would be that we passed on a 6'8 monster for some winger that can't skate and that the Devils get it right again. 🤷‍♂️

FWIW...LOL....I'll mention it again....the Sens had 6 guys playing in a game a week or so ago [maybe in the Ranger game as well ? ] that were in that draft ....3 of them first round picks in Sanderson+Stutzle +Greig and Kleven +Reinhardt +Merilainen the goalie .

Have we had these 5 from the 2020 Draft play in a game together this year? Or have Rempe and Berard not played in the same game?

But you could have really just stopped at this being a Gorton crew run draft. The only guy the NYR have taken with that profile since Drury took over was Roobroeck.

It would be an odd complaint there because he’s done nothing but improve his stock since being taken.

Sens have at least 4 of the 5. Stutzle -Sanderson-Greig-Kleven.....

Why would he only be here in 2-3 years? Are we buying him out? What if his production drops in half who is trading for him at 34/35 years of age making the money he makes?

I actually would not sweat it...get 3 -4 good years and TWO cups later who cares . Cap will be 110 million .

1. Panarin is a band-aid for the team in the regular season. As long as he's around, our offense is going to structurally rely on him for success in a "local optimum" way.
2. Panarin does not put up results in the playoffs with the Rangers.
3. Out of all the players we might trade, Panarin has by far the most value. I want maximum long-term return on 50% retention. It gives the acquiring team two shots at the cup with him at under 6 million cap hit. We should be able to get something really worthwhile in exchange for that.

Yeah, Mika is not performing, but I don't think he's realistically going anywhere anyway, and I think we can structure the team in a new direction while working around him even if he's ultimately overpaid for what he provides.

It could be a guarantee that he would be useless in 3 years and I still do that for 50% off.
