Ahh, the old "take 30 penalties and give up rapid goals late in the 2nd" strategy is back

Swayman kept them in it before the wheels fell off. Lohrei keeps making some really nice offensive plays. The pasta/zacha/geekie goal was nice. That's all I got for positives

It's quite obviously a question of foot speed and skill. How many on this board celebrated that the team was finally getting big and bad this offseason?

The team just can't cope with even a half-decent forecheck (couldn't with McAvoy healthy either), can't get through the neutral zone fast enough to be a threat nor get in on the forecheck fast enough to establish any sort of pressure. Too slow, too sluggish. Start thinking about next year, this group has too many holes to recover.
Who made the team big and bad? Only Kastelic and Zadorov made the team tougher. It’s guys like Brazeau, Wahlstrom and the aging out guys like Marchand and Coyle.
I have to laugh every time I see that getting big and bad made the team slow.

What if he says he doesn’t want to be traded?

Then, what if his agent says he won’t sign for less than $6.5mil. What then?
Then he stays. Marchand has at least earned the right to decide what his future holds. I don't particularly trust Sweeney to get anything of value back.

If for whatever reason he decides that he wants one last shot with say, his buddy Nate over in Colorado, then you oblige him.

But the decision is his and his alone as far as I see it.

E Lindholm has sucked this year, but he isn't going to get less sucky playing with Walhstrom and Brazeau.
Walhstrom is the classic 1st round bust and Brazeau has nice hands in and around the net, but what else does he bring, big, slow, not physical, not a good backchecker.
This team is approaching the "let's trade Joe Thorton" dysfunction of the early millennium.

When I go see them live I just try to see if what I see on TV is close to whats really going on. I didn't expect much from the defense with the top 2 out. Carlo just seems bad. Hopefully just having an off year without Lindholm. Lohrei you can really see what the Bruins see in him, physically. He just looks like Mr All America. Issue is, his instincts are really bad. His positioning is bad as is is anticipation. You hope they can figure it out.

Swayman was all world. I have never seen zone time like the Devils had at one point period two, and he was amazing. Korpi was at the other end so I couldn't really see what was happening.

Forward wise, Poitras is here to stay. It's funny, for a smaller guy he really works his leverage and angles like a veteran getting bigger guys off the puck. His stickhandling and creativity are third to Pasta and prob Zacha. Pasta you can appreciate live just how much better he is than everyone else on this team. Has some warts obviously, but skill wise forget it. The 4th line hustled alot, and was impressed with the tenacity of Letterri..

Now the most concerning thing, and don't want to overreact due to one live showing, but Lindholm looks absolutely cooked. His faceoffs are average. He looks slow. Disinterested. Uncompetitive. Made the nice pass to Stone hands Wahlstrom, but I pray that this take is just a bad game because his contract will be an albatross. Looks like a Chris Kelly at this point, without the wheels

Poitras was a minus 3. He struggled along the boards with bigger and faster players He isn’t slow but his skating is awkward. For now play Poitras limited C minutes and pp1. His creativity and quick thinking is awesome however the skating and strength needs improvement. The 2nd line was hemmed in most of the night. That would be worrisome against the Sens.

Does he have a full NMC?

Playmaker posed a stat that 63-13-51 outshot NJ 10-5.

You can see a tale of two teams. At one point the Devils had 1st, 1st, 3rd, 9th and 12th overall picks on the ice. Two of them were traded for/UFA signing. The question is will the Devils ever put it together?

Back to the Bruins though, they need to rebuild. They will continue to be competitive I guess by kicking the can down the road but never get over the hump.

We need to see this team healthy with some skilled players inserted into the line up. For me, should a line up with Poitras Lysell Charle And Lindholm continue to struggle I look at rebuild.

think Cam and Don know what "path" they are taking now?

Personally I don`t think either of those two should be overseeing a retool of any kind

Think Jeremy or Charlie Jacobs has the nuts to can them both? Doubt it , this team is one steamy pile of dog crap and almost every team in the league breathing a sigh of relief when they see them on the sched

I`d be more frustrated/disappointed if the previous 10-15 years was a stretch where they were also crap but been pretty happy for the most part as a fan but this is now embarrassing

I don't think Charlie is the right person to lead any kind of remake of the front office and team. He seems too deferential to Neely and Sweeney and not confident enough of his authority to make those personnel decisions even if he does not have their hockey resumes. He seems to have a middle manager persona.

Unfortunately, I don't know if we should expect ownership to bring in an experienced top exec from outside. The organization has remained very insular for the most part. It is actually surprising that Chiarelli was handed the keys. I'm not saying these are options, but as examples I don't expect to see the equivalents of Jim Rutherford taking over Vancouver or John Davidson in Columbus. I'm not sure who the great outside candidates to be new major domo would be but there is always somebody out there. Has to have experience in that position, that would be one of my firm criteria.

Ownership does not seem that hands on anymore - so who is making these top down changes if it's not punted down to Charlie? They'd have to really bottom out and as bad as this season is looking, I'm not sure it will meet the level needed to, erm, wake up the bear. "Missing the playoffs" is not the same as finishing bottom 5-10 in the league and seeing the rink half empty.

1. If he doesn’t want to go, let him stay.

2. That’s too pricey, imo. You let him walk.

Regardless, they need to get a plan in place now. I don’t trust these guys have any sort of idea having not really been in this position before.

If they lay an egg tonight I'd love to hear the "Fire Sweeney" chant from the whole of TD Garden. Somebody needs to wake this clown up, your 4 nations tournament isn't more important than the NHL team you currently "run".
This is so silly. This idea that Sweeney is too focused on the 4Nations to care about his team, when there are several other NHL GMs involved with multiple teams who are involved as well.

We're about to see who the real fans in here are, because all signs point to a period of time where things aren't exactly rosie ruzicka all over for potentially a few years.
