Post-Game Talk: Battle of Ontario the Sequel - 6-2 win -- Game 1

Marner 3 points, Matthews 2 points, Nylander 2 points, Tavares 2 points, Rielly 2 points, Knies 1 goal, Laughton, OEL and Lorentz 1 point, Mcmann and Robertson 1 point.

11 players had at least 1 point tonight, 5 had at least 2.

PP was clicking, I think their 3 PP goals came in a combined 20 seconds something like that.

PK Was 2/2 including a BIG one in the 2nd period.

Stolarz made me a little nervous with that first goal but he was STRONG after that, especially on that breakaway, if Brady scores there It's 2-2 and maybe the game goes a different way but Stolarz made the big save when he needed to and it allowed the Leafs to blow the game open.

More of that Tuesday please

You’re making me feel old. He’s a character from the Addams Family known for his dim wit and bald head. Lalonde, former coach of Detroit, bears a striking resemblance to him in looks and smarts.

Great win! but 5 on 5 starting next game leafs will need to be much better or series can change quickly
Leafs have to keep playing their game and the Sens will be forced to take penalties as the Leafs forwards can expose their defense. When they do take the penalties, punish them

What is the make or break line for a Marner return?

Win a series and then lose in a comptetitive secound round?
Lose in the conference final in any manner?
Lose in a competitive conference final?
Cup final appearance?
Cup or he walks?
I think he has to walk no matter what happens. It’s not that he’s not a really good player or anything but in the cap structure of this team. The blame is on Dubas for giving him that NMC ensuring he walks for nothing.

We need Knies and depth players more than we need another soft skilled forward making big money. When they gave Willy that deal, that was when I decided he has to go. They’ll probably keep him and continue having a top heavy team and losing key support unfortunately.

Didn't he get a game misconduct? Thought I heard the announcers mention it.

With the exception of a few defensive zone breakdowns, not much to pick apart. Stolarz was the right choice to start and any number of lineup changes/resumptions worked.

Despite the floater, I think Reilly still has too many gaffes.

I wouldn't change much except sending a message through Pinto and Grieg; That's Domi and Benoit's Game 2 assignment.

Edited to say: Ottawa is genuinely loathsome. Far, far worse by way of genuine rivalry than Montreal, Boston and Florida teams combined. Could relocate to Oakland for all I care.

Montreal and CBJ weren't cup final quality teams either.

Nor was Boston last year.

Previous Bruins teams as well as every edition of the Lightning and Panthers were legit cup contenders though. No excuses, to get anywhere you have to play good teams at some point, but it is true they were unusually strong first-round opponents.

Just have to shake your head and laugh at the Leaf “fans” hoping for lineup changes in Game 2 after a dominant 6-2 win. Especially the few calling for Woll to start in goal instead of Stolarz.

There’s not a chance in hell of Berube putting “Patches” into the lineup for game 2. And there’s a less than ZERO chance that Berube will replace Stolarz with Woll for game 2.

I love Matt Knies. That dude was built for playoff hockey. They’ve gotta lock him up long term, even if it means losing Marner. He’s the epitome of what this team needs.

There’s more than enough money to re-sign both Knies and Marner with $11M commode the books with Tavares’ contract.

Treliving will lose Tavares before he ever lets Knies or Marner leave.

Overall super impressed! They dominated! They own the series, they will win. Rielly has yo wake the f*** up. He’s just gotten fat and slow… he needs to skate. Need more shots on net. Rielly just looks cooked. He looks like a father! And that’s ok. He looks like chubby ass, lazy ass who has bigger priorities than hockey. What I don’t like is this weak ass attitude coming in game
