Seems like Savard and Sale to Kitchener. I k know what Sale brings. What is the scouting on Savard. Is he your 2/3/4/5 guy? Obviously not an offensive gem but must be a decent stay at home guy.

It's a no brainer as long as Thornton is healthy... From the broken finger to start the season and being hurt just before being sent back to junior.. He might not be a hundred percent.

I feel bad for West.
Is Anson Thornton goalie hurt right now?

Looks like the deal is on hold according to Rangers thread.

I was hoping Savard would be around for next season. He is a RHD, two way guy with decent size and mobility. He has a bit of a mean streak to his game. I'd say his offensive game still has potential but he wasn't used on the PP here.

Marek just tweeted the trade so maybe it is going through? How are the two 05's we are getting back - Morey & Scott? Would have been pretty cool to bring 05 Mercer back to hometown.

Im sorry but Morey is our worst F and Scott is either the worst or 2nd worst.

Scott is a depth D that when playing a simple game in a 3rd pairing role does fine. Has some physical game which he has also shown when needed to play as a winger.

Morey is at best a 3rd liner in the league but won't contribute much beyond an honest effort every shift.

Both are depth pieces and reliable but won't wow you.

Morey and Scott were only included to clear space for the additions and give Barrie some warm bodies for now. Neither are really anything more than that. It’s the picks Barrie was after.
I figured as much. Disappointing for season ticket holders for next season. Sale (if coming back) and Savard could have given this group a good chance at a round or two next season. Good deal for Kitchener.

Well I would say this is a deadline dud for Marty Williamson and the Colts. I don't understand why he couldn't get a better deal for Punnett & I really hate the Sale/Savard deal. Kinda feel like calling the colts office and asking for a pro-rated cash back on my season tickets! I guess it will be fun watching some of the other teams play. I feel bad for the remaining players left, they will be overrun/over matched by most of the teams they play down the stretch. What do you think the lines will be moving forward for the remainder of the season?

I see
Jelsma-Patterson-Sirizzotti
York-Beaudoin-Jodoin
Wigle-Grisolia-Morey
Stewart/Lowe-J. Newton-Moses/Debridge/N.Newton

Extras Debridge-N. Newton

Aitcheson-Stewart
Brauti-Tiller
Blair-Passmore/Handsor

Injured: Akey

Hillebrandt
West

Hrebik

Moses will get some looks on scoring line as well, Jodoin/Stewart will be utilityy guys floating up and down lineup as needed. The loss of Savard for next season leaves a big hole IMO, he could have been a good part of the top four. Now Tiller will have to step up and/or Brauti unless they pick up someone strong in the draft or through trades. Next season will be another builder season unless there are big strides from Beaudoin/Paterson/Moses and/or we are able to bring over Nygaard. We shall see.

I think Barrie had a very poor trade deadline. Feel sorry for Jelsma as he's not going to win anything unless he leaves next year. Will be at least 2-3 years before Barrie is good again. Maybe longer if they keep these deals going. They released better kids to the OJ than they got in trades

I've been lurking around this thread the last week or so as we've past the trade deadline. Overall I'm in agreement for the most part with the frutrastion with what's happened in the past. This team always seem to want to be down right average and it's aggravating. Unfortunately we can't go back to last year and make bigger additions like everyone seemed to agree we should have besides management. However I'm surpised to see people this disapointed in the results at this deadline. Yes there were probably trades where we should've/could've gotten more value but at the end of the day we weren't left holding the bag with older players. Standing pat would've been the worst thing we could've done. Sell off these guys as we did and try to get as much value as possible, then hope someone in mangement finally realizes to win the league you need to go chips in and not be half hearted.

Here is my analysis of the trades around deadline time. Let me know what you think.

Frasca deal - This might have been the best one of the bunch value wise imo. I thought getting a 2,3,4 for an OA who's struggled a little bit with the inhury bug this year was good. I'd give it an A.

Punnett deal - This one I thought they'd get better value on and slightly better assets than the Frasca deal. Anyways at least they got something of value for him in the 3,6 picks. It's tricky trading OA players at times. I'd give it a B-.

Thornton deal - I'd first I was shocked the only thing coming back was a 15 but I think he's still hurt for some time. Seemed like goalie positions were set with the contenders. Kinda a no move with this one. I'd give it an incomplete as if he's hurt it's impossible to get much for him.

Sale/Savard deal - This was the big one and I seem to be the minority here, one I'm glad they made. They got a couple of '05 players back, however neither really seem to have high potiental. The picks were the prize here. Wish there would've been another 2 attached but to get a 2,3,3,4,4,4,5,5 isn't the worst for asset management. If Sale does in fact go to the AHL next year I think this return is servicable. I'll give it a B.

Moore deal - I don't hate this at all. Once you start to get to the middle rounds the chances of the player ever playing in Barrie is pretty slim. I'd take my chances on a guy who has a very high ceiling even if the odds are he isn't coming. I'll give it a B.

Overall happy with the selling off direction of the team instead of staying put. Value wasn't great but wasn't horrible either. I felt like they could've traded Jelsma to get even more pieces and fully commit to the '06/07 group to be the winning group.

Sirizzotti isnt reporting, not sure if the soo knew that before the trade.
That is really going to hurt. I hope Marty didn't know about this possibility. Maybe he will change his mind..

I agree, I feel bad for Beau. If they had kept Savard at least I think it would have been ok. Losing him for next year and possibly/probably the year after is a tough one in my opinion.

Here is my analysis of the trades around deadline time. Let me know what you think.

I agree with your analysis, espeically on the Punnett/Frasca deals. I kinda get Thornton, I think Marty wanted to protect West who is a Barrie boy. There is no guarantee Thornton will be back, and I think Niagara took advantage by trading up in the draft to help Marty out in that regard. Moore is a gamble that could pay off HUGE. But my opinion is that if he isn't going to report to London, there is no chance he is coming to Barrie, so it is likely just a splash in the Knights pile.

RE: Sale/Savard my big contention was including Savard. Why not take fewer picks and just send Sale? Sale is a gamble on both teams part, if he comes back next year, the trade is terrible on the Colts part IMO. Savard is coming back next year for sure and he is needed in our top four D pairings next season to eat a lot of minutes. I also would have liked to see 05 Mercer come back. He would have been a good contributor and is a Barrie boy so would have some skin in the game over here...Anwyay I agree we got a lot of great picks, but I'm just not happy with the deal overall.

thornton deal is conditional, if he plays a game the pick will be more then a 15th round pick.

So Nolan Newton has left the team. This leaves Barrie with 14F and 13 if Sirizzotti doesnt report. But still, 14 is tough with injuries and suspensions
