Barracuda News & Discussion VII

Landen coming over on an ATO probably means he's expected to sign an ELC (I would assume, otherwise why bother).

Grier must be planning on making over the Barracuda's defense some more - Carlsson, Cagnoni, Furlong, Beck, Landen, Havelid, maybe Thompson, Pohlkamp, and Misskey.
I believe Landen is too young to sign an ELC since he’s a non-1st rounder drafted out of Sweden. Same goes for Havelid and LSW.

AHL transaction wire says the Barracuda have signed 2023 5th rounder Axel Landen to an ATO.

Love this. Landen is one of the guys that I think is super underrated in our pool.

Due to transfer agreements I believe only first rounders out of Sweden can come over to the AHL before 24. I think because Landen’s season is over he’s allowed to sign a ATO but I’m not sure if he’s able to sign his ELC.

I think there's a slight distinction here. I think it's that the NHL team can't make a unilateral decision to bring them to the AHL if they're under 24.

I'm not sure how that transfer agreement works, as there have been Swedish players drafted after the new transfer agreement was implemented that have played in the AHL under the age of 24 (2022 third rounder Elias Pettersson, Adam Engström, Anton Wahlberg).

My interpretation was that players who aren't under contract with a Swedish team are free to sign. It's hard for me to say, but I don't believe this is an NHL-CHL situation.

If Schuldt is willing to come back, you take him back easily. I've seen enough of Furlong. I highly doubt Pohlkamp comes out this summer unless DU wins the National Championship, and even then it's iffy. Another season with DU as the #1D after Buium leaves is probably better for him than playing bottom pairing minutes on the Cuda anyway. Beck probably ends up in the ECHL to start next season like Hache did this season. Misskey could be an OA candidate. And I truly don't care if Havelid ever comes over, he's not even in my consideration.

I certainly hope there isn't as much turnover on D as you're expecting. I'd like to just run back Cagnoni/Schuldt/Carlsson/Thompson.

Agree and I'm just going to say I really don't think it's the players we have playing defense that are the reason we give up so many shots per game. I'd bring most of these guys back if we're able to.

Heh, well, we had home ice advantage last weekend too, how'd that go for us.

In all seriousness, we have a tough stretch of games coming up this week. Second place Ontario tonight, then this weekend we're @ first place Colorado for two games, and that's with our decimated defense. I'm hopeful but I'm bracing for a very tough string of results.

Ontario can also clinch a playoff spot by beating us tonight:
