Barracuda News & Discussion VII

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Referees had to huddle up for a while to figure this one out: Tristen Nielsen of the Canucks takes a two-minute minor for high sticking, and then four minutes for headbutting Vanroboys. Vanroboys also gets a roughing penalty. Result: four minute power play for the Cuda, who have the top PP unit in the league right now.

Sloppy play for the first half of it, though. Period ends, Cuda have 1:20 of PP time left when we come back.

End of two, still 3-2. We've had some success this season on the power play against these Canucks, but they've figured something out against us, our man advantage has not really been an advantage most of the time in this one.

Abbotsford only has 13 SOG, but both their goals were good ones. Period ended at a good time, Abbotsford was starting to get some momentum going.

Elsewhere in the league, Ontario, Colorado and Calgary all lose, Tucson currently down 3-1 at Bakersfield. All good news for us.

Once again, Barracuda can't finish off a game. Momentum starting swinging hard towards Abbotsford around the end of the second, shots in the third period were 15-4 Abbotsford. Third period our execution was just not there. I was a little surprised we took the lead again during that stretch.

Lots of two-point games. Colin White obviously (2G), Regenda (1G 1A), and Bordeleau/Duehr (2A each)

Was hoping we pulled this out, as it would tie us on points with third-place Calgary and Ontario, instead we're one point behind them. Well, three points out of four on the trip isn't terrible. Now we've got a week off and then we head to Tucson to face our friends the Roadrunners on 3/15.

So after all the players traded by Mike Grier at the deadline, does it open up a few spots on the lineup with the Sharks?

Could some guys get a call up as a ''last chance'' kind of scenario? Maybe giving a look at Gushchin or Bordeleau before they give up for good on them?

Was looking at the transaction ticker today and there's a move on there from last week (3/5) that I do not remember being there before. Wondering if they added it well after the fact.

The Barracuda have signed John Gormley to a contract, it says. Gormley is a 24 year old 6'4" RHD out of Long Island University. His offensive numbers are... well, not amazing.

This has become one of my favorite times of the year, as the Barracuda have made it a thing to sign about a half dozen NCAA players at the end of their season to amateur tryouts, so we get to see some new faces. This is how we got Carriere, Vincent, Vanroboys, Houle, Frisch, etc. I wasn't sure if we were still going to do this for this season, since we should have some actual prospects coming in eventually.

But the transaction says we signed him to an SPC and not an ATO, which would mean he's signed to a full contract. That's a little bit surprising.

No Bordeleau. Still no Bystedt.

Walker Duehr out, wife is expecting.

Edit: Bordeleau was in warmup but was a late scratch, something nagging him.

Curtis Douglas makes it 1-0 Tucson.

Really poor start from us, we cannot get it out of our own zone.

And now 2-0, Agozzino scores.

I kinda want McCarthy to call timeout here, we do not look ready to play.

3-0 Tucson after the first period, shots are 17-6 Roadrunners. Looks like we might've changed the defensive pairings up again, Cagnoni is now with Frisch and Thompson with Hache. Second straight game we've done that in the first period if that's what we're sticking with.

I'm looking on the bright side, we can only get better from here.

It's first responders night, so for intermission they've got a police car, ambulance, etc driving around the ice with their lights going. Can't say I've seen that before.

So now we're not playing that poorly, but just keep taking penalties to break up any momentum we get going. Only good news is Tucson keeps taking penalties that cancel out their own power plays.

We go onto the power play after our penalty expires, Poturalski scores to make it 4-2. Poturalski now holds the franchise record for points in a season, beating out the guy destroying us tonight, Andrew Agozzino.

That's also two primary assists for Gushchin tonight.

They've jumbled the lines up and are sending out some really strange combos. Like, Coe is now on the top line with Poturalski. I don't think I've seen Rem Pitlick 5 on 5 in a while.

There's been a lot of penalties but I'm also feeling like these referees are just whistle-happy.
