Post-Game Talk: Leafs Lose 4-2

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
This team desperately needs a defenceman that can shoot.

Absolute muffins from the point. On top of that, we're running the biggest muffin of a shot (Marner) on the point as the forward. No one is worried about Marner's shot from the point.

Colorado has Makar from the point, who won the hardest shot last year. Edmonton has Bouchard on the slot opening up space for McDavid/Drai. We have no one on the slot who's a threat to score so teams just collapse the passing lanes as the chance of you getting beat at the point are very minimal.
That’s why the leafs are always trying hard to find space and passing lanes and make perfect passes down low/off wall on the powerplay. We’re always trying to make the perfect play. Because we lack a powerplay quarterback with a big, long, accurate and hard shot. But like you said, other teams also know our weakness and as a result, they just collapse and disrupt the passing lines and easily take away time and space from our forwards.

If we had defensemen with big and hard shots taking much more shots at the net, we would also be able to create much more rebounds/second scoring chances around the net, for big players with hands, size and skill on our forward group like Knies, Matthews, McMann and Tavares.

Worst than that we can’t take two of the four forwards off pp1 to put on pp2 and if we do it’s a guarantee atleast one of them is gonna be the wrong one taken off

I can’t recall Matthews getting visibly excited about anything. He’s low energy, low intensity and seem jaded and indifferent about everything. He doesn’t have that fiery and competitive demeanor. Not sure he has it in him. Just the way he’s wired, I guess. It’s certainly not conducive to raising his game or inspiring teammates when it matters most. Tends to come up awfully small and short in the big moments.

Let’s just call it like it is. Auston Matthews is a loser.

No qualifications on that statement. No one else implicated. No future conditions about turning it around and proving otherwise.

Not much left to say other than they just don’t give a shit. The core 4 minus Nylander, the support players, outhustled, beaten to pucks, beaten in puck battles, poor decisions, loss of focus, …even their goaltending was better. Laughton and Carlo proving again they contribute nothing. Rielly is beyond pathetic, he’s putrid. Nice guy though ughhhhhh. Marner sulking because Matthews was taken off his line, Matthews coasting most of the night. Coaching sucks as bad as the players. They lost the special teams battle again. Really a disturbing and concerning state of affairs.

Yep. It’s hard to accept the harsh reality about him but yeah, he’s a loser until proven otherwise, it’s sad but true. So far, his entire career proves that fact.

As long as he’s famous and paid, he doesn’t seem to care about anything else. He seems to love the social and financial perks of being the premier star on the Maple Leafs more than anything else. He knows that here in Toronto, or in any other Canadian market, he will be worshipped just for breathing. In most of the American markets, no one would be able to notice his presence and existence. People would be too busy talking about the quarterback on their NFL team, the star point guard on their NBA team, or the star pitcher on their baseball team.

Surprised at the Carlo criticism here. I’ve actually liked him. He’s good value for his contract. He’s a second pairing guy.

It’s hard having to babysit Rielly. That dude needs to be trade ASAP.
put rieloy and benoit in the pressbox call up rif

Hard to blame them either way. No Cup since 1967 and haven’t even been to the Finals either.

I’m well aware that it’s been 57 years.

But let’s not act like they’ve just won the Cup after winning one round of the playoffs. And let’s not act like the franchise needs to be disbanded after a five game losing skid in the regular season.

It’s exactly like those Dr Pepper Fanville commercials.

That won’t happen. They have a 9-10 point buffer.
Yep the Maple Leafs are stuck in the Atlantic playoff bracket, there’s no way out. Even if they get a wildcard seed( the first one most likely) they will face either one of Ottawa, Florida or Tampa. Washington is too much ahead, no team will catch them as they will easily get the top seed in the east and the leafs have 9-10 more points than the second wildcard team ( who will play against Washington) already.

What a disaster.

The Leafs went all in this year. No first round pick for the next 3 years, the team has no life, no jump. Marner wants to be paid more than McDavid and Draisaitl. Matthews is hurt all the time, and you wonder if he will ever get his mojo back. Rielly is absolute garbage. It's looking like the Leafs "stanley cup window" has closed and they only won a single playoff round

they try to score too close to the net. Same thing almost cost Team Canada the 4 Nations tournament.

What an individual effort by Willy on our first goal!

Where was our right winger on their first?

Oops by Ullmark. Was Matty passing to Domi on our second? :sarcasm:

Where was our right winger on their second?

Why is Mitch cheating for offence on the PK?

We actually had some chances in the last few minutes - got to give Ullmark credit.

The three stars were right on (for a change).

Who were the 3 stars and of course no one’s gonna mention marners miscues the most you’ll get is a vague he had an off night followed by Hes been our best player this year(he has not by the way) tanev then the goalies but whatever any line he touched was horrible today I’ve never seen him this bad in a regular season game

Anyone watching this year could have told you the Leafs were pretenders. We just got exposed before the playoffs this time.

We we so reliant on goaltending for our early success.
You gotta think stolarz is giving up some starts to Woll for sure he hasn’t been good they both haven’t but atleast we know woll can be in the most pressured of situations

I'm getting to the point where I might be done with this team for the foreseeable future if this happens. Especially if they lose in the 1st round again and Marner is non existent and disappears in the series.
Same here

Would we do any worse with the core of gone.
We would have a team.
We already gave string defence and goaltending

Money to spend on forwards
50 mil / 10 = 5 mil

Could it be any worse than what we have.
