Donavan Houle gets a penalty shot, stopped pretty easily by Tolopilo.

Happened after one of the Canucks wiped out bringing the puck up the ice during the power play. Lot of guys losing their footing early on.

End of the first, still scoreless. We're not doing a great job of getting the puck out of the zone, Canucks had a couple pretty good chances that they just missed the net on. Shots 7-6 SJ.

They've changed up the D pairings, which was probably a good idea. Carlsson-Cagnoni especially was not gelling at all. So it's now:

Carlsson-Furlong
Hache-Frisch
Cagnoni-Bucheler

We get another penalty shot, this one for Bains of the Canucks, but Carriere stones him. Can't remember the last time I saw two penalty shots in the same game.

Carriere seems like he’s got something, huh?

I would've liked to see us sign him for next season, as well, when we gave him his contract today. Everyone made a big deal about how it was important to have goalies on expiring contracts so that the way was clear for Askarov to take the reins for the Sharks, but the other side of that is that we need to have goalies in the org next season. We have none under contract besides Askarov.

So why not have Gabe Carriere be one of your options? He's being given opportunities right now, and he's making the most of them. His lateral movement was really impressive in the win today. If the Barracuda next year went with Carriere as one of our main goalie options, I'd be completely okay with that.

He's on an ELC, so I think it's automatically one year. They liked him enough to sign him now, so I have to imagine they want to bring him back next year.

Man, I knew that, and then I somehow forgot it over the course of the day. Yes, that's true.

Been a long day.

(Just to clarify, I kept thinking Carriere is 25, not 24)

Scoreline doesn't really reflect the flow of play in this game, the Canucks were good tonight, but they got beat by a combination of Carriere and a bunch of missed shots.

It's a big result for us, too. Ontario lost in OT and Bakersfield lost to Tucson tonight, so we're now two points out of fourth, and nine points above eighth. Opens up a five-point gap between us (5th) and Abbotsford (6th).

There's still plenty to clean up for tomorrow's game, @7:00 once again.

It keeps happening to me about things lately too.

I blame age, and trying to learn a new language.
