Barracuda News & Discussion VII

End of the first period, 2-1 Colorado. Not a very good start from the Cuda. Can't say we had too many chances. Eagles have given us some trouble when they've played us, they're a good team.

I can't really see anything that happened to Romanov that would've caused him to come out of the game, I guess we'll see if Nollenberger mentions anything.

So Colorado goalie Mandolese takes a penalty for throwing a punch at Lucas Vanroboys after Vanroboys got a little too much contact with him for his liking.

Gushchin scores on the ensuing power play to tie it.

Cagnoni assists. Both he and Gushchin have two points thus far in this one.

Barracuda go on a 4-on-3 power play and "get a little too cute" as Nollenberger puts it, they get nothing out of it. Too much passing.

It then goes to the other end and Colorado scores almost immediately. Really deflating.

Olausson adds an empty netter. Barracuda did pretty much nothing 6 on 5, Colorado just kept making empty net bids from the defensive zone.

And now another, Jacob MacDonald completes the hat trick with it. 6-3.

That's your final.

They played a better game than us, but man they got some favorable bounces tonight. Power play was 2 for 4, but squandering that 4 on 3 was a killer.

They made some scorekeeping changes, with Thomas Bordeleau being the beneficiary. He gets assists on both goals 1 and 2 now, and Gushchin no longer has an assist on goal 1. So Bordeleau finishes with three points on the night, giving him 6 points in 3 games.

We have Colorado again tomorrow night. We've played them four times at home this season, in two sets of back to backs. Each time, Colorado won the first and we took the second. That's the best we can hope for this time around too.

Who on the roster do you think is NHL ready?

You know, by in large it's still the same guys that have had cups of coffee with the Sharks already. Gushchin's looking motivated lately, for one. Everyone's seen Graf and Thompson by now.

I know there's going to be plenty who will reject this, but Bordeleau has been playing some of his best hockey. Been impressed with his effort off the puck and if you subtract the first 12 games of the season (he started the season injured, remember) he's put up 23 points in 24 games. I keep saying I don't think Grier likes him though, I feel like he's more likely to get packaged into a trade rather than ever see time in a Sharks sweater again.

Do want to see Cardwell get another shot in the NHL soon. He screams 3rd line winger to me. His AHL numbers should be better. 6 goals, 26 assists in 38 games, yet he also leads the team in SOG with 128 (that's a 4.7% shooting percentage). Sometimes just seems like he's snakebit in the goal-scoring department.

I think Regenda gets a couple games. He's got pretty good hands for a big guy, does well in front of the net, and he's faster than you'd think. He's already played 19 games with the Ducks, so it wouldn't be a shock if you see him in the NHL. He'd add size to the Sharks lineup, too.

I know Bystedt's getting talked about elsewhere, and he just needs to start making some better decisions with the puck. I said that he's overthinking earlier in the thread, and then later in the game tonight he had a completely open lane to the net, only for him to pass off to Cardwell (who was covered) for a turnover. Nollenberger even called him out on this one. Make smarter, and simpler, plays. Give him a bit.

Cagnoni's getting hot again, I don't think he sees NHL time this season but if they called him up I wouldn't argue.
