Tonight's Barracuda game is on NBC Sports California @ 7:30, for anyone interested. Anyone tuning in that's unfamiliar, though, I might as well give a disclaimer: It's our first game against Tucson. Let me tell you a little background here, because I can't imagine this weekend is going to go down without incident.
We played Tucson 8 times last season. By my count, those games resulted in 413 penalty minutes. In fact, we played them for the last two games of last season and those two games alone resulted in 233 of those PIMs.
Scott Sabourin was also suspended for what happened in our last game against them, deservedly so, after his attack on Montana Onyebuchi in the last game that I'd describe as "unhinged." Onyebuchi's still there on the Roadrunners, I would guess he remembers that.
I mean, you go back further: Tucson was who we had that line brawl against in the 22-23 season, Hrabik did that racist taunt towards Boko Imama in a game against the Roadrunners, Imama himself got suspended four games for boarding Artemi Kniazev in one of these games. I could go on.
Basically: Tucson games always have the potential to get nuts. They've still plenty of irritants: Onyebuchi, Hunter Drew, 6'9" Curtis Douglas, Ben McCartney (who is such an effective pest in our games I'm surprised he hasn't had more NHL time). Fun times ahead.
