I think Nollenberger's praise for Schmid in this game isn't really all that justified. Feels more accurate to say that he's outplaying Romanov today by a good margin. He's had a couple good saves for sure, but he's not the reason they're winning this game.

5-2 Henderson is your final. Well, that was an awful watch. Really nothing that concerns me long term, but just bad effort/performance all over the lineup today. I was especially unimpressed by the Bystedt line.

Romanov was good in the first and, well, less good after that. I don't understand why we called up Aaron Dell. Nollenberger said this was the first time Romanov had gone back to back- did they not want to put Dell in? Why didn't we call up Carriere instead, who put in some good performances for us earlier in the year? Wasn't even like Romanov was amazing yesterday.

tbh, only change I'd like to see after that game is to break the second line up. I'd be for moving Bystedt back down to 3C, he's been frustrating lately. Just put that one in the rear view. Especially since we're @ San Diego next on Wednesday, and we have played like trash against the Gulls this year.

No other way to put it. It was just not fun.

I don't like Bordeleau and Goose together because against teams that are more aggressive they both absolutely cave.

Rewatching the second angle on that third Henderson goal: Carlsson had some bad luck in playing that puck, but at that point, just body the guy. That was just a disaster all around.

I liked the setup we had before a lot more: Gushchin and Bordeleau on the LWs for the top 6, Cardwell and Graf on the RWs. Putting Goose and Bords together on the same line is a new thing this weekend and it hasn't worked at all. Gushchin goal today notwithstanding. I dunno why that's a thing we tried.

👋 This is honestly so weird, but I'm here for it. There will also be some matches from Pro Wrestling Revolution at 3:30 that afternoon.

Mentioned this was happening already I think in another thread. It actually happened a couple weeks ago, because Keane hit the games limit for a PTO (25) so his tryout becomes a full contract. Read more into it and I think it's just how many games the team plays, not how many he's dressed in. They could've just given him a second PTO, but it made plenty of sense to just have him the rest of the year for depth. I'm not huge on him, but I'm 100% fine with him being the #7 guy on this team. Emphasis on #7.

Little bit of an eyebrow-raiser on the transactions wire, Barracuda sign goalie Samuel St-Helaire to an ATO (amateur tryout). EBUG? Something going on with Dell maybe? We play @ San Diego tomorrow.

At least the fact that they got Booker T shows they have taste.

Ugh. Tristen Robins really takes too long to make a play on a puck up by the blue line and it goes the other way for a Colangelo breakaway and goal with 39 seconds left in the first. He just sort of switched off for a moment there. 1-1. I was ready to call this a good period until then.

First intermission. Has all the feeling of a very low-event game. Gulls doing their usual thing where they play man coverage in the neutral zone on our breakouts, so we're trying something new and just passing around in the defensive zone until we have an opening. Guess that's coaching, eh?

Gulls kept sending what's basically a cherry-picker once they get possession.

Not a SHG, you can see the guy come out of the penalty box right before they score it. Scorebug was being wonky.

If there's one complaint I have about our play today, it's that the power play has been terrible. Giving up shorthanded chances left and right.

Tristen Robins scores at the end of one though, to make up for earlier. We're tied at 2. Robins's first point since November 10.

Thompson's also back on the ice, he gets the primary assist.

Penalty shot for Jan Mysak of the Gulls, who gets hauled down by Carlsson from behind. He just puts it five hole on Romanov to make it 3-2.

I might be wrong, but Romanov just doesn't seem to be good at penalty shot/shootout situations.

The Gulls getting behind our defense is a common theme tonight.
