Cuda score 4-6

Ontario got it back. 7-4.

The gamecenter page on the AHL's website is super dumb. The score updates automatically, but I have to refresh the page to get the clock to move. So I sat on the page and watched the score go from 5-2 to 6-4 before I noticed "gee, it sure has been 10 minutes left in the 3rd for a long time."

Leonard just got into an argument with a Gull before a faceoff, wouldn't let it go, apparently took a penalty for delay of game? That was weird.

One of the moves I want most this trade deadline is quality AHL goaltending. I wonder how much this team is held back by subpar goaltending. This is one of the more decent games I’ve seen Melnichuk play, but he just looks like AHL backup to me. Ala the big club saddled with Jones, I wonder if suboptimal goaltending is holding back development. Not like a good AHL starter would cost much, and I’d think it’d be an investment in growing the young guys.

It’s kind of fun to watch a NHL top line talent skating at like 70% effort and being the best player on the ice.

I’ve always been fascinated to see how much better an NHLer is than just an average human being. Like I play intermediate adult roller hockey and I want Kane to show up one day just to see if he looks like a super hero.

That said, I played a pickup with a couple of guys who were like close to pro and didn’t make it and they were so good that when we were racing for a puck, it felt like I wasn’t moving at all and they were the Flash

Absolutely, he was great tonight. Didn't want to jinx it before it was over but that was one of his best games.

4-1 Barracuda, final. Megna added an empty-netter.
This may be the second good game I’ve seen him play. The path forward is to get competent AHL goaltending with all these young guys coming up who have potential. Don’t need a Martin Jones / Sharks issue on the Cuda and establishing a culture of losing. A year or two of a stable vet would do wonders as we wait for Gadreau and that big kid out of Denver. Watching Melnichuk I just don’t see it.

I haven't either. Some people had high hopes for Melnichuk but he's shown very little improvement over last year. Sawchenko's had every opportunity to take over the #1 spot but has been no better. They probably will just continue to roll with these two the rest of the year and then move on from one of them, if not both.
