Not a spear and not even remotely threadworthy. 2 min slashing is the correct call. Move on.
What’s more likely? After reviewing the footage starting with 02:13 I agree that he does not hit him in the nuts with the blade, but probably the shaft. Secondly after watching that replay 10 times I have no idea what Barkov is doing, other than being frustrated and just whipping his stick anywhere he likes. Previously I said a 5 + game misconduct would be enough. Upon further review I would make that a 2 game suspension, especially since he only got 2 in the game, it was really reckless.
Thanks for pointing out the main principal of contact though, that was very clearly seen on last replay which was the one I had watched the least of. Very rare to see the shaft being the main point of contact btw.
Exactly. The rule book is shit. It should be explicit about what is an illegal act and what isn't. There should be NO room for interpretation. But the NHL does not want that. They want to be able to influence games.Swinging your stick up at a player isn't usually a penalty unless it hits their face (high-sticking) or arms (sometimes called as hooking)
And what the rulebook explicitly says does not matter. This is not a legal document. What is more important is the spirit of the rules. There are a variety of illegal acts that are not explicitly forbidden by the rulebook.
What’s more likely?
That Aleksander Barkov, a Lady Byng trophy winner, with 122 total penalty minutes in his ENTIRE 10 year career finally snapped and cup checked someone,
OR Barkov, one of the best defensive sticks in the NHL, was going for a stick lift and accidentally hit Letang in the balls?
Either way, the penalty for a cup check has been 2 minutes for a very long time. You disagree. I actually agree with you. Intentionally cup checking someone should be 5 and a game.
Now stop crying about it and move on.
They player in question matters here. Barkov literally has nothing close to a dirty play in his entire career. In fact I think he has only one roughing penalty in 10 years. It’s so out of character that he gets every benefit of the doubt.Yes, Barkov was clearly just going for a stick lift but was a second late and missed by 2 feet.
?????????????
Apparently you aren't quite up to date on what Barkov finally did say. It's really strange that it took 12 days and he waited until after the 2nd game with the Devils for him to speak up. But the Panther media, some of the fans, and of course the Neanderthal Tkachuk went after Nico like he speared Barkov in the nuts.Could have been worse, he could have cross-checked Letang in the knee.

Florida Panthers Captain Sasha Barkov Says Hischier Hit Not Dirty
SUNRISE — Florida Panthers captain Sasha Barkov is expected to be back in the lineup Thursday night after missing the past three games after being hit in the knee by New Jersey’s Nico Hischier on Dec. 17. Barkov was hit when Hischier used his stick to chop at Barkov’s knee during a faceoff in...floridahockeynow.com
I hope Pittsburgh treats Barkov the same when the Panthers treated Nico.
Lmao, Pens didn’t get their typical titles game in their favor?Pathetic display of reffing in Florida last night.
Find a second video of Crosby doing this.
Both plays are dirty. What's your point? They don't cancel each other out. Neither of these plays belong in the gameLmao, Pens didn’t get their typical titles game in their favor?
Here’s a whole article. He literally squared up with Valábik’s but sack in 08 (found that hilarious article, from 17 btw, as I looked for the valabik nonsense). He poked Ek last time they played.![]()
A brief history of Sidney Crosby’s crotch shots (Video)
Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins had quite an eventful night against the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday. There was the one-handed backhanded goal that will be rerun in perpetuity, playing out like his own Quicksilver scene from an X-MEN sequel, rearranging the Sabres defense in super-speed...sports.yahoo.com
Next time make a thread after Sid next pops someone’s balls, the player safety angle will seem a bit more sincere.
The context before this play was there was a few big hits exchanged, first by Dumoulin on Barkov and then Bennett on Letang. It wasn't random. It really looks more like Barkov thinks he can lift the stick there and with Letang's leg is up, he catches up where he shouldn't. I can see that being 2 minutes instead of 5.
Ah yes exactly and K'Andre Miller accidentally spat in Doughtys face. Logic is spot on with this postThey player in question matters here. AgreedYou can totally argue that it’s a cheap shot and should get 5, but that’s definitely not spearing.
Settle down there soft guy!I am sure you would be unaffected if you had ruptured testicle, tough guy!
If protecting the players safety is dramatic, then so be it! I dont think its dramatic at all, just common sense.

yeah I came here to comment that the league has been strangely tolerant of players spearing each other in the nuts. But seeing the replay that's not what this was.You do know that "spearing" is hitting someone with the toe of the stick, right
Whole point is that’s it’s both insincere and hilarious that someone e posts Barkov of all people on a nut shot as some giant issue when Sid has done it over and over again. Literally had my point in my post. Both plays are dirty. What's your point? They don't cancel each other out. Neither of these plays belong in the game
