After reviewing the footage starting with 02:13 I agree that he does not hit him in the nuts with the blade, but probably the shaft. Secondly after watching that replay 10 times I have no idea what Barkov is doing, other than being frustrated and just whipping his stick anywhere he likes. Previously I said a 5 + game misconduct would be enough. Upon further review I would make that a 2 game suspension, especially since he only got 2 in the game, it was really reckless.

Thanks for pointing out the main principal of contact though, that was very clearly seen on last replay which was the one I had watched the least of. Very rare to see the shaft being the main point of contact btw.

Swinging your stick up at a player isn't usually a penalty unless it hits their face (high-sticking) or arms (sometimes called as hooking)

And what the rulebook explicitly says does not matter. This is not a legal document. What is more important is the spirit of the rules. There are a variety of illegal acts that are not explicitly forbidden by the rulebook.

Exactly. The rule book is shit. It should be explicit about what is an illegal act and what isn't. There should be NO room for interpretation. But the NHL does not want that. They want to be able to influence games.

They player in question matters here. Barkov literally has nothing close to a dirty play in his entire career. In fact I think he has only one roughing penalty in 10 years. It’s so out of character that he gets every benefit of the doubt.

The context before this play was there was a few big hits exchanged, first by Dumoulin on Barkov and then Bennett on Letang. It wasn't random.

The most bizarre part is how the refs gave Pettersson and Tkachuk 10 min game misconducts for scrumming after the play but Barkov only got 2 minutes.

Yes, that's why I specifically wrote swinging the stick up/down. If I meant swinging the stick only in an upwards motion, I would have written as such.

Barkov has his stick through Letang's legs but the end of his stick actually slashed Letang's hands. This wasn't a spear to the nards.

I can understand how the refs thought it was a spear then saw the replay.

Whole point is that’s it’s both insincere and hilarious that someone e posts Barkov of all people on a nut shot as some giant issue when Sid has done it over and over again. Literally had my point in my post.
