I will give the man his due, as much as I have criticized the signing and his play most of the season, he's been very good the past few games. Hope he keeps playing like this.

he’s leadership/presence on the team and in the room can’t be understated.
He’s been a critical part of winning teams for a while now.
It’s not an accident why he was targeted in the offseason, nor is it an accident why this team has done a complete 180 in terms of passion/caring about winning games and actually playing like a team.
Part of it was being stale under Quinn and hiring Gallant no doubt, but neither of them are on the ice. You see our players play with more edge, play a little tougher, and a little more confident.
That’s why he was highly sought after and paid handsomely in UFA.
You won’t always see his importance on the scoresheet, but his versatility and attention to doing the little things well is his value.
That and his presence physically and otherwise to give the rangers that big swinging Di*k attitude...

I mean would you rather have this guy or Buch

Both. I mean this team could use another scoring RW right now. Goodrow can slot up and down the lineup. Everywhere he goes he makes his presence felt, whether its the fourth line or first.

His work on PK and late in games is there regardless of where and who he plays in the lineup. His versatility playing wing and taking draws in the middle is another bonus.

You dont want to disrupt the chemistry going on here, but in a perfect world this team could add some more offensive production and a sturdier depth defenseman who could possibly play top 4 min and lets get to work in the playoffs.

But that’s wouldn’t have been the trade off. He makes about half as much. Can play all 3 fwd positions, win key face offs, play just as good defense, to go along with the leadership/experience and more physical style.

the Buch decision was made when NYR resigned Kreider.
Whose more important, and who brings more is debatable.
Both guys are playing well this season. Buch is def the younger guy, but Kreids should age pretty well and is one of the Best PP net front players in the league. He’s been a straight beast under Gallant as well

All I heard all summer from friends was how bad of a contract he got. Yea, Drury knew what they needed and how important a guy like BG is in the room. Cooper's endorsement of him, and saying he was the one guy that was irreplaceable that they let go speaks volumes. He's also 28, not 31 or 32 and signed to six years. Good for him in getting the deal and good on Drury. Great signing, and it's paying dividends now. Wait until the playoffs.

Yeah, if we had only watched Tampa, as was said at the time, we'd know Goodrow was that wrong player to target from that team.

Obviously six years was too long, but that's generally what happens in free agency, the term is too long or the money too great (or a little of both). If he gives us four good years on the deal I'll be happy. Hopefully those final two he's either still playing at a high level or is moveable. IIRC even a buyout of the final two years wouldn't be particularly burdensome.

Even if many had just watched Tampa's playoff games they would've seen the impact he had on his club

Bumping this to give this guy some much needed props. With 18 points in 40 games (non of which came on the PP) he's been one of the only secondary scoring threats on this team. He's also one of the reasons this team is much harder to play against compared to last year .

Even more impressive is that he's having a better season than Blake Coleman who everyone wanted instead. Who woulda thunk

I agree he's been good, and does have value filling in, occasionally, in top 6.
But when played there regularly, you see he doesn't belong there full-time.
And you lose his best work making 3rd/4th lines be effective.
Great add, just not the answer in top 6

He has been great. Probably asked to do too much, but it's good that he can fill in in a pinch and not drag a line down. He has assumed the Blackwell role from last season but is much more well-rounded and versatile. If he can give us even three more years of play like this, the contract will have been totally worth it, IMO.

One of the few that can play anywhere GG wants him to complain and stays nothing but positive. when Kakko comes back i am sure he will go to third line to play with Fil and Laf.

Well, he shouldn't play in the top 6, that's for damn sure.

He can though, if need be.

I'm very satisfied with BC. He does take the occasional dumb ass penalty, to go with his dumb ass face, but he has wheels, grit, clutch and is an all around solid player.

In hindsight, if we had Fast, Goodrow and Blackwell our bottom-6 would be a nightmare to play against.

I think he will look even better in the second half when the Rangers hopefully make some additions that get him properly slotted in the bottom 6.

Grabner scored 52 goals in 135 games for Rangers. He also had a 30 goal season under his belt.

Hags had 58 in 266 games
Michael Grabner GPG with the Rangers - .38
Michael Grabner GPG everywhere else - .24

His goalscoring here was basically a fluke perpetuated by AV's fly-the-zone offense.

And he had 11 empty net goals in 135 games.
