You guys that are too masculine to see the movie, is exactly what the movie is about. I found it super funny and I laughed my ass off at the jokes made about the men.

Come on guys, just be able to laugh at yourself a little bit.
SPOILER-ish

Yeah, just saw it yesterday. The message is the movie and yes the women defeat the men to return to their ideal world, if you want to read a lot into that, fine...but it's not a pathetic, blunt force attempt Supermarket Sweeping through "liberal causes" like, say, A Man Called Otto for instance...I was laughing hysterically at times. This was craftfully written, acted, and executed. Gosling should get an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor...

This was an absolutely wonderful film. It rides the rope of Over the Top perfectly. It has some beautiful emotional notes. It attacks toxic masculinity and promotes feminism but as my wife said isn’t excessively aggressive with both. Any man comfortable with themselves will enjoy this movie. Wonderfully cast and delightfully surprising. Not a rom com, a unique coming of age film for women and men… sorry, Barbies and Kens.

I'm glad that you enjoyed it, but the bolded seems like a conceit. As I pointed out earlier, there are women who didn't enjoy the movie, so it's certainly possible to without it being because of discomfort with one's masculinity. In my opinion, if you're comfortable with yourself, you shouldn't feel the need to judge others just because they find the movie more or less appealing than you do.

The vast majority of negativity toward this movie comes from a certain demographic and it’s clear why they don’t like it. So I stand firmly behind my statement.

Naturally, a Barbie movie that's unflattering to men is going to disinterest mostly men. It doesn't mean that they're not comfortable with themselves. Jumping to that conclusion seems like patting yourself on the back at their expense. It's like saying "anyone with brains will enjoy Oppenheimer" just to be proud of your intelligence and insult anyone who didn't enjoy it.

Date night with the wifey my dude...Dinner and a movie theater
same here... (dinner and a movie, not being forced lol) I paid for dinner and the wife paid for the movie and snacks, with the insane mark-ups at the theatre I think I actually made out alright on the deal lol.

Cool, what derogatory term should I be called then for not wanting to see

I may be mistaken, but it seems pretty clear to me he's calling out the Ben Shepiro (sp?) types who get offended over the simplest shit. His reaction after seeing the movie was comical, but he knows how to make money off of outrage.

I haven't watched the movie. I dont really care to. Maybe it is minor attack against men or maybe a group of people are getting offended because they're sensitive. I'd put my money on the latter given how sensitive people are now-a-days, and it goes both ways.

Great first weekend. Over $155 million in the US. Around $340 million globally. I may have undershot saying it’ll gross half a billion.
It’s a different movie from anything that’s been out in recent years. Hit their target market it appears. For Mattel it was huge and should also spike product sales as well.

I thought it was funny, but at least 25 minutes too long. I hoped it would actually be a bit more brave woth feminism but I guess it would have bombed in the US then. The movie made it so that everything can be interpreted as satire. Played both sides so ro say.

Not a movie I need to see again, but wouldn't complain if I had to.

Apparently the popularity and success of the movie has also inspired Mattel to launch the Mattel Cinematic Universe... Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots, Hot Wheels, American Girl, even Magic 8 Ball

I wonder if Hasbro is going to throw their hat in the ring and start a cinema war a la Marvel vs. DC.

Hasbro has had Transformers and GI Joe. Transformers stalled at the end of the Bay movies. GI Joe, stopped after 2 movies. But, had the stand alone Snake Eyes origin one which I don't think did great.

Also under Hasbro that has hit theatres was JEM. They also own My Little Pony and M.A.S.K.

Yeah, they've had some big ones. "Throw their hat in the ring" wasn't really the right way to say that I am just wondering if this whole thing will turn into a battle.

And that’s the thing, it doesn’t attack men. Not at all. It attacks toxic masculinity and builds up men finding themselves and their reason. Same with women.

Imagine if Mattel and Hasbro had teamed up. Instead of going to an exaggerated real world, Barbie and Ken could've gone next door to G.I. Joe-land. There, Ken could've fit into that male-dominated world and Barbie could've felt out of place, and then Ken could've brought that machoism back to Barbieland. It could've been largely the same story, but with subtlety, keeping the toy theme, more for everyone (especially men and kids) to appreciate and likely more fun after the first half hour. If Mattel couldn't get Hasbro to play along, they could've just done G.I. Joe-land without calling it that. Either way, that's a movie that I might've been eager to see.

With the success of Spiderman (miles morales) and Mario Bros, maybe it's best to leave certain properties in their intended animated form.

Exactly. This movie is hardly "anti-man". It's anti-asshole.

I mean, the movie wraps up with Barbie literally telling Ken that he's more than his girlfriend and that he's good enough being Ken. That his value isn't about who he is WITH but who he IS.

This movie is probably the most family values movie we've had in a long time truthfully. In fact, it's almost painfully gentle and safe. I laughed a LOT during it and it's worth your time. Anyone who feels like they're being attacked should maybe do a little introspection because the only people being poked are folks that aren't too kind.

What a silly comment. I had no interest in watching the Transformer or GI Joe movies either so does that mean I'm effeminate lol. I do know that if anyone who actually knows me heard you call me an Alpha or a man's man they'd laugh for days. The fact that you've mentioned you went with your wife several times now tells me you're not as comfortable with yourself as you think you are.
