A 1st for him? lol Okay. Last seasons 60 points was a fluke, he's back to around 40 points a season again.

And he shouldn't sniff a top 6 role in the playoffs. So if a team wants to pay a 1st for a bottom 6 player as a rental, go for it.
Yup, in a year full of flukey performances his was as flukey as anybody. Ridiculous shooting percentage, bad xGF and defensively absolutely tanked.

He has shown he can be a really versatile third liner checker (though I’d hesitate to use him as a pure center) OR a winger with enough talent to ride shotgun with some line drivers on a scoring line. What he has never done is be both of those things at the same time - so to call him a 50-60 point two-way forward is calling him something he has never been.

I do think the Blues may be able to squeeze a first out of somebody and I do think he can help a contender. I think the interest is legit even if I think the player has suddenly become massively overrated.

What I wouldn’t do is turn a rental into a bad long-term contract and Barbashev absolutely smells like a guy some team is going to completely overpay this summer.

I floated Bleuger+Hallander+2nd. Seems like the kind of package that a guy like Barbs would go for.

I think a fresh start for Bleuger could be good too. No question he could come in a fill a bottom 6 center slot right away and you can likely resign him on the cheap for next year. Major boost to PK as well

I would hope for something better. Not sold on Hallander, late 2nd round pick at this point I would rather have 2 - 2nds.

Plus I want a little something something if we have to retain or in this case take back a contact. Bleuger is making as much a Barbashev. His contact is pretty cheap so, ,,,,,

That's more than the Penguins paid for Rakell last year, who's a better player than Barbashev.

Probably a fair enough offer, would just come down to if our scouts like Hallander compared to other prospects.

We will see what a team is willing to pay. 1st is a long shot, but who knows. We still don't know if it is a seller or buyers market and it only takes 1 team to up the ante.

Timo Meier is clearly the best available player. Kane depending on the injury is next .
Then ROR, and after that I think Barbashev would be the next most sought after player.

It's too bad that he isn't signed for another year cause otherwise I can see teams paying the Coleman price.

You see players like Barbashev get hyped up as "they'll bring back a 1st" at the deadline every year. They very rarely do.

It seems like the only rentals that bring back 1sts at this point are clear top-6 forwards or top-4 D or really physical defensemen. Players like Barbashev fall in that "team asks for a 1st, but ultimately gets a 2nd" category. Even Copp, who I think is just a better version of Barbashev, would have only brought back 2 2nds last year had the Rangers not reached the ECF.

Eh, at least we picked the right time to suck. Next season woud've been a disaster to start sucking. Maybe he'll sign an extension, but he'll still get a pretty good return along with what Tarasenko and ROR will bring, and then Acciari will be a decent return to start stockpiling some picks.

He's playing his best hockey of the season in the new year. 5 goals 7 assists in his last 15 games. Physical hockey. We've been feeling good about his play heading into the deadline because he's been getting stronger. He'll help someone.

I like the player but can you enlighten us about his playoff performance? The numbers are not great but any arm chair GM knows the numbers don't tell the full story.

He will be fine, he's a guy you want on your team come playoffs.

Hard to play against.

I hope we throw our hat in the mix. Our middle 6 needs help

Barbashev was terrible in the postseason last year. IIRC, he was playing on the fourth line at some point vs Colorado because he was doing nothing offensively.

I think last year was an anomaly for him offensively, but on the right team + more ice time, probably would be able to get between 35-45 points.

If you view him as a top 6 player, I think you'll be disappointed. If you view him as bottom 6 player, you'll be happy.

He was always on shutdown duties. If you look at the Blues history in playoffs we shut down teams vest lines and run our second and first to score

I'd agree with Louie the Blue about his playoff performance last year but it wasn't just him. But you can also point fingers at a lot of other Blues forwards besides the Saad-ROR-Perron line which was a world class two way line. Some of that was Colorado's depth and strength which outplayed them.

But on the Cup team which was not that long ago for him ... 23 vs 27 ... he was a critical element in a heavy 1-2-3 forecheck line with Steen and Sundqvist. He knows what level of commitment it takes, he has been through it. He has enough puck skills to complement highly skilled players which makes him versatile. Coaches are constantly looking for matchup switches in the postseason and when you have someone you can put in a number of roles depending on situation it adds to your ability to match up to a given opponent.

Barbashev has to be Tampa’s target. It makes too much sense with how he plays and that he’s shown he can produce when playing an elevated role if needed.

I love how everyone says they would do 2nd and a prospect and then offers up someone who is NOT a prospect. It’s 2nd and Knies or Pickering or Harley or someone similar who actually has nhl potential
