I hate that they are involved with sports books.

The constant sports betting ads and content being pushed down everyones throats is going to have disastrous results (it already has for many people). The leagues and teams have to know this, but they just don't care. It's like the bus ad I saw in LA last year that basically said "Having trouble paying your bills, try the lotto". It's disgraceful.

Get ready for ads like this...

"Jim in Long Beach turned $20 into $12k by hitting a 12 team parlay, you want to be the next Jim? Sign up at Fan Duel with promo code GoKingsGo and your first bets on us" They all push the parlays on their social medias and other ads because that is where the Grand Canyon sized margins are.

They went from having their heads buried in the sand and did the whole Casablanca "I'm shocked there is gambling in here", to openly pushing it non-stop.
And Pete Rose had to go to the grave shunned by MLB. The whole thing is crass.

Maybe I’m old fashioned. But I think limiting my degenerate behavior to my time in the city of Vegas is the best way to moderate some sin.

Personally I won’t make any purchasing decision based on any ad I see remotely connected to a Kings game. So I don’t truly care about these sponsorship decisions. We’re too many janky companies deep to worry about the latest fad that has some spare cash laying around.

The issue is that advertisers believe we have a fan base of uneducated people who are easy targets to separate from their money.

Same. I like to gamble once or twice a year. I’ve never made a single bet in the sports book.

As someone who has won significant (at least to me) amounts of money gambling i dont think its worth it. Maybe for someone who is fortunate enough to bet life changing amounts of money but even then, its pretty much a waste of time.
All depends on how big a fish you want to be. Remember- if it takes you more than 5 minutes to figure out who the mark is in a poker game, YOU'RE the mark.

Ain't no parlay like a Wildturkey12 party , cause a Wildturkey12 parlay don't stop!
I was screaming like a crazy person last year in Vegas for Bedard to get over 2.5 shots on a 6 leg parlay. That a hole was putting up 4 shots a game for a few games before that and crushed my dreams with zero shots in that game. It made for a romantic dinner with the wife after. I just complained about Bedard the whole dinner

I limit my wagering to Nevada as well.

I live within 30 minutes of four Indian casinos. Only played there once. Depressing. Too many people there playing with their rent money.

anbody wanna make some futures bets?:naughty:
On a lark in the spring of 2012 I made a laid $100 on your Los Angeles Kings to win the Cup at 15-1.

The ads are just targeting the younger demographic. When you get into your mid 40s advertisers could give a damn about you. You are already locked in on your favorite consumer items and businesses you use.

It works too. Being a Kings fan from a very young age, I was so excited to open my first bank account. Not a Security Pacific where my parents banked, but at Great Western Bank. It made me feel like I had a connection to my favorite team. I can still remember taking my birthday checks from my grandparents, riding my bike to the branch and getting my passbook.

I think we said the same thing. The overlapping cohorts between the uneducated and under 40s is decent. You opened an account at a long forgotten bank many moons ago. I was also a person who converted into a passionate fan at a young age.

But I think the current new fan is being enticed to gambling on sports and currency’s which is more shady than safe savings or checking account.
