Post-Game Talk: Balinskis, w/ 2 assists, leads Panthers to 4-1 win over Red Wings

It's so funny how team has had March slump for the second year in a row and people were arguing "actually, it's different this time, they are so tired and just don't have it anymore"... and then again team looks just fine by mid-April

Detroit sucks and has nothing left to play for. Let's see how they do game one.

im remaining pessimistically optimistic

Going deep in the playoffs is hard and takes a lot of right bounces, we come out flat vs (prob tampa at this point) and go down 0-2 before PEDblad comes back i think we lose in the first round

On the bright side, if we get past tampa i easily see us in the finals, but the west is absolutely insanely stacked though

I need to see how Tkachuk and Ekblad look before I gain any optimism.

The chemistry between Lousty Lundy and Marchand look VERY promising though

Verhaeghe Barkov Reinhart
Samo Benny Tkachuk
Lousty Lundy Marchand
Greer Sturm ERod

Forsy Ekky
Mikko Jones
Kuli Schmidt

Looks VERY promising if they can perform
Jones def fills the hole left by monty, ill wait to see how he does in the playoffs but hopefully better than montour did last post season
OEL is gonna be missed but Schmidt is more than fine on the 3rd

Our top 9 and 4th line are better than last year (if swaggy does swaggy things in the playoffs like he usually does)

First two games are gonna be tough with tkachuk gettin into form and still missing ekblad, if we can at least split 1-1 ill feel good, down 0-2 im not gonna feel great

Then hopefully our D is back to form when everyone shifts around again

I like what Paul is doing with running Mikko and Jones now and let Forsling pair up with whoever has their breath. They need the reps

Forsling and Ekky have been together for a long enough time they should be ok chemistry wise.

I thought Montour was good in the playoffs

he had some rough patches last year, seemingly couldnt score like he did last year, and had some ass passes on the PP leading to short handed attempts.

He wasnt bad, and had some solid defense, but man he was a bit off for a good bit, not to mention nearly takin out bennetts hand off, good joke for a while the only thing his shot could hit was bennetts hand

That said i absolutely miss him dearly, he ate a lot of minutes and was good on defense and setting up the offense

Imagine
Forsling-Ekblad
Mikkola-Montour
Kulikov-Jones

Would be the best dcore this league has seen in a long while

I need to see how Kuligod is first, if he’s feeling good, we’re gonna repeat

I know it won't happen, but when everyone is healthy I would go with:

Forsling-Ekblad
Mikkola-Jones
Megna-Kulikov
i really, really wish we saw more of Megna cause ive seen a few backup D get sent up and do good for a game or two then be absolutely horrendus.
The back and forth between Mahura/Ballinskis last year was hilarious

I think Schmidt has earned his spot but im curious to see how Megna ends the season

I don't like how Schmidt plays. I'll just leave it at that.
And I think he's going to get caved in the playoffs.

Monty was no where near the same level last year like two years ago.

Good yes, irreplaceable no.

Curious to know what the Mikkola-Jones pairing analytics are. Good? Bad? Scotty might need to tap in on that one.

this was from his first game paired with mikkola
Dont have anything else, @ScottyMascotty can help me out

Everyone knew that was an outlier year. And honestly, same can be said for Chucky. Both over produced let's be real. But Monty was still solid, albeit his shooting was bad (more than likely because of his shoulder).
yeah hes def back to form this year, but no way we couldve kept him sadly

Pretty decent actually.
18 games together [115 mins] at 5 on 5, they've only allowed 1 GA but just 1 GF.
They've actually been deployed in more OZ faceoffs setups:

57 OZ (68% of total faceoffs)
23 NZ
26 DZ

On ice sv%: 97.83
CF%: 57.89

SF: 63
SA: 46

Much much more of an outlier for Monty than Chucky.

Monty was solid but it is much harder to replace a guy like Chucky/Reino than Monty, hence the decision was made as it was by the FO.

Montour is back to form?

Very clear outlier.

Chucky? Not so much:

One is a at best .5 PPG Dman who had a career year a year too early, the other one is basically a PPG forward every year with the possibility for more.

Pretty easy decisions actually.

The actual decision on the extensions was between Gustav and Brandon, and they very much made the right call.

What decision actually?

There was never a question Reinhart was a priority. I dont think anyone has brought that up.

Ill frame it this way. I'd much rather have Montour at 7 million vs Jones at 7 million.

Montour had his warts, but he was a perfect fit and was an absolute horse in the 2023 playoffs before he got injured. Would I rather have Montour than Seth Jones? Yes.

But the team simply didn't have the cap space to extend both Reinhart and Montour, it wasn't possible. Extending Reinhart on a team friendly deal was a no brainer, an absolute no brainer. Reinhart is one of the best forwards in the game. Montour was a great 2nd pair D.
