GDT: Bald Headed Scallywags @ Raleighwood: Caps @ Canes (7pm)

The new school hockey fan in me wants to say that Chatfield pulled a move that could crack a guyā€™s skull, that this seriously serves no purpose in the sport, and that the only way to get rid of it is to give him a few games to think about it.

The old school hockey fan in me says **** you pal, you mess with the bull you get the horns. Youā€™re really gonna run around with the biggest cheap-shotting sociopath in the NHL, deliberately targeting the smallest players on the ice while taunting the bench all night, till he gets taken down to his knees by a right cross from Five Foot Eight Inch Logan Mother ****ing Stankoven, and the hill youā€™re gonna die on is that you didnā€™t like the way the leagueā€™s most AI-generated player got ragdolled by a non-fighter? Go **** yourselves. Iā€™d say we can settle this in the playoffs, but at the rate the Caps are going they wonā€™t make it far enough to see us in the second round. So see ya next year I guess. Maybe Tom Wilsonā€™s CTE-riddled brain will hold up long enough for him to remember to do something about it. **** you.

So thatā€™s the conflict I have going on.

Iā€™m not sure about that unless jersey canā€™t catch Carolina by then
canes have red wings, bruins, and sabers before washington - get four points out of that and jersey can't pass them even if the devils win out.

jersey has the rangers and bruins before the 10th, adjust the total needed down for every point jersey doesn't get from those two.

no guarantee, but i think it is likely the canes'll be locked in to second by then.

i assume washington won't spiral to the point the game is important because the canes are catching up. (9 pts back, 8 to go, 1 game in hand - would take a historic collapse. however, it should be noted that you can't spell collapse without caps. fwiw.)

If it was pretty much any other team, I'd lean toward new school hockey fan, but given that we're talking about the Washington Capitals and Tom "somebody is gonna get hurt" Wilson, I'm firmly in the old school hockey camp. They were trying to start shit all night, and the Canes didn't back down this time. Luckily it seems like McMichael managed to avoid serious injury.

Has anyone ever been suspended for a takedown in a fight?

It was how it was done. Chatfield essentially pulled an MMA move there. If it was the typical "Guys lean on each other until trying to balance on skates becomes impossible" takedown, no issue.

But Chatfield did a hip toss, which slammed McMichael's head on the ice. That's never been allowed in this league.

This doesnā€™t answer my question.

I'm going to go against the grain and say I think Chatfield's move was incredibly dangerous. I wouldn't be surprised to see a suspension coming. Sumo slamming a guy that doesn't have a helmet onto the ice is not something we should cheer.
I agree. We shouldn't cheer it.

And yet I did.

Oh well.

Don't start none, won't be none.

Would you have preferred the scuffle end with a knockout punch? Not saying someone canā€™t get hurt with a hip/trip toss but some of the indignation on Chatfieldā€™s slam is a bit hypocritical.

Ya but your also playing for home ice in the event they beat Washington or Washington loses you wanna have home ice over the Atlantic teams too weā€™ve all seen how the canes play on the road this year compared to at home
