I have to agree with you. Though I tremble in my boots disagreeing with Oilcup with a bazillion posts and another guy with Moderator splashed across his Avatar (does this make him head Gladiator?) it looks as though from the 3 or 4 parts of games I have seen (am far from any expert on the London Knights) that someone specifically from the Oilers might have gone to the Hunters and said 'Develop this guys two way defensive game'. Not sure that the Hunters would even listen.
As an aside -- if we ever find the courage to fire Mr. Schwartz -- and i know he is not specificaly a goalie coach but Rob Simpson could do a lot of good in our organization.

Nope, Woodcroft was part of the crew that went all in with Desharnais and didn't give Kesselring a second to see what he could do here. I do agree with cleaning house down there though.
Said for a while Chaulk is the wrong guy down in Bako. Time to put him and the staff on ice at the end of the season and make new hires all.
Why end of season? These are some big developmental seasons for a few guys who the organization feels should be pushing for roles on the big club as soon as next season.

I think that's directed at me haha, but I still think it's easily a player issue more than a coach issue.
People complained that Chaulk needed to play Bourgault, Tullio and Savoie more. They leave the team and now they're on the 4th line, being healthy scratched and in the ECHL.
Talented players produce under Chaulk. I just don't think they've had all that many talented players down there recently.
Doubt the team does anything in season in Bako and there’s probably a better selection of personnel available off season I would think.

I haven't been a fan of Chaulk since he was often giving BOTH back to back games to Pickard while Rodrigue, who desperately needed gametime, was often sitting from the bench. It's part of the reason why at 24, Rodrigue has still only played 100 games.

Not great with the Condors flailing. Need the Prospects to develop in a positive environment. We had good vibes when Vinny, Clouder, and Skinner were coming up. Who knows where Savoie's production could be with a better team.
I don't watch Bako so can't speak to the problem. Do they need to bring in more effective AHL vets? Get rid of Chaulk? Woody's probably bored, lets bring him back.

Chaulk just seems like a dude who constantly favors veteran players when the goal down in our farm should be letting the young bloods develop by being given more ice time and opportunities. Curlock pays a lot of attention towards the farm team, so if even he is taking nips on Chaulk, then you know Chaulk is awful.

AHL coaches have a built in conflict of interest. On one hand their main contribution to the big team is development, but for them winning is the route to the NHL. Vets can help you win.

Teams do way more due diligence than just looking at who won the calder cup. If they looks and see that an organization has graduated zero prospects for the team they are farming from it doesn't matter how many championships they win in the ahl because the NHL is based in developing young players into long term nhlers.

Yes but the NHL is about winning. If you get a guy that can develop and win then you have a potentially great NHL coach in the making.

I think Chaulk has done an okay job giving young guys a chance, but his system is (or seems to be) highly defensive. If you're not defensively responsible then you're not going to play.
To which, fair enough; but my big critique is for a coach in a developmental league, players rarely seemed to take a step forward under him. Broberg last year more or less hit the ground running, that wasn't a slow burn. Lavoie? Sorta, but never enough to earn an NHL look. Even Holloway looked meh under him, lest a hat trick in his final AHL game to make his numbers look better.

With the possible exception of M. Savoie (he hasn't been great either) and Philp (who is already 26 years of age) how many other guys in Bako look like they have any shot at the NHL? Maybe Rodrigue?

I still believe Wanner has a future in the NHL.
I think it’s time to move on from Chaulk and see if someone else can get more out of them.

I feel like he's done pretty good with what he had to work with. There haven't been too many real prospects on Bako over the past few years.
He had Broberg and Holloway for parts of three seasons, there's Desharnais and Kesselring, Philp is looking promising, Hamblin gave them some solid games on the 4th line, he turned Lavoie into a good enough of a two-way player to have a chance.
I think he gets a bad rap because a few high profile prospects like Bourgault and Samorukov were straight up busts.

And yet the coaches you hear about getting shots at the NHL level as head coaches are the guys who win in the AHL. The NHL is about winning. So is any top pro league.
Look at a guy like Copper. He won in the NAHL, then in the USHL and the in the AHL with Norfolk before being promoted to the Bigs.
Dan Blysma did not really develop anyone for the big club yet got promoted after a very successful year in WBS then ended up back with Seattle after back to back Calder finals.
Look at a guy like Warsofsky in SJ. He had very little record developing players but after winning the Calder in 2022 he gets promoted to assistant and is now their head coach.

Really hope Jarventie comes back soon and comes back healthy. Was really hoping to see a bunch of clips of him dishing to Savoie.

He's been the Arvidsson of the AHL for us so far. Actually RV has been more durable.
