Speculation: Bad contracts that will be bought out/dumped

I doubt they would give up Quinn to dump Samuelsson but I think there is a deal to be done between the two. Rackell is the type of forward they need and Rust would be a good addition. Obviously value needs to be balanced out with either of those guys, but Dubas should definitely be calling Buffalo on Samuelsson and the younger guys they have that haven't hit their heights yet.

If the Pens are tanking next year to get McKenna or another in the top 5, from those mentioned in this thread Grubauer with a sweetener for Jarry wouldn't be a bad swap for them and Seattle.

If it gets expanded to include Rust or Rakell while the Penguins are taking Samuelsson back, I'd expect the Sabres to have to include pick #9 this year for that to work.

I'd say that pick is available for the right guy, just whether they see one of those two as the right guy. They could replace that pick with someone like Benson or Kulich who both look like top 6ers in the making but it just depends on how Buffalo value that 9th overall.

I would expect those guys to be even less available than the #9 pick, so I'm surprised to read that.

Either way, there's a pretty obvious fit between these two teams. If Quinn gets included, I could see Rust/Rakell for Samuelsson, Quinn and pick #39 being a reasonable starting point. I'd bet most Penguins fans would want more but just as a starting point seems reasonable.

I'm not a Buffalo fan, so couldn't be barking up the wrong tree, but the fit does seem logical between the two.

I wonder about Victor Arvidson.

Edmonton is pretty tight to the cap and it would save 2.6 million
Most reports and rumblings around Edmonton were that Edmonton wouldn’t have much trouble trading him and had deals lined up at the deadline but they elected to keep him. They might not GET much for him, but I don’t think they’ll need buy to buy him out. Hes got too long a history of being a 25+ goal scorer.

He has a full NMC so he'd have to approve any trade destination.

Yeah, I think he will return something, but how will be highly dependent on how many teams he's willing to waive for.... but I'd guess probably a 4th due to the Oilers cap situation... much like hoow Dallas never got a good return for Marchment.

Do you think Buffalo would pay to move him out? The idea I had was Timmins for Samuelsson and Quinn, Buffalo gets a decent bottom pair RD and gets out of Samuelsson’s deal. They have the young forward depth in the AHL to replace Quinn.
I don’t know if they are willing to stomach that price to get rid of him. I’d guess they’re offering him for next to nothing, then the next steps would be to see what needs to be attached to move him - and if that doesn’t make sense, just buy him out.

Another contract I wonder about from Edmonton is Kane.

Probably don't need to buy him out, he's to talnted for that, although it woud save almost 2.7 million.

But I do wonder if he's played his last game in Edmonton.

Hinrique too, that woud save 2 miller.

Basically Edmonton is the team to watch here in my opinion

Lebrun said less return than marchment to a rebuilding team for Kane most likely.

Kane gets more minutes to help his case in free agency
said team then flips him at the deadline
