I'd want a second. I like Vladar

Going Wolf/Cooley seems unnecessarily risky
If Ottawa were to trade for Vladar, I think it would likely be Forsberg (expiring) and a draft pick for Vladar (expiring), not just the pick for Vladar. So Calgary in that case would be going Wolf Forsberg and Cooley callup, which is more depth than Wolf Cooley.

Who in their right mind would pay anything for Vladar? he has the 64th worst GSAA/60 out of 69 goalies since 2022-23

Anton Forsberg has better metrics than him.

Any goalie would with the defense we had for about a month of away games.

Absolutely no one blamed him

Have you seen Ottawa's defense under DJ Dorion hockey? People still blamed the goalies.

Tell me you've never watched him play without telling you've never watched him play

I don't need to watch him every game to know that he's nothing special

Goalies can breakout at an older age but so far, nothing special.

Do you think he is a Top-30 goalie or something?

Doesn't need to be top 30 to be valuable to Calgary. He makes big saves and no very little poor ones. The team plays like they trust him.

That's all I need, I don't care about a 3rd at all

ok why you're talling me all that? I don't care. The question is why would Vladar be worth a 2nd or a 3rd like you guys were saying?
A fan's sentiment is not what determines value. My house isn't worth 2 M$ all of sudden because I am attached to it.

I think Conroy values him more than I do. Again, a third is meaningless. He's a hell of a protection for wolf

We don't need to trade him, more likely to resign him

It's crazy how fast people are losing the plot these days.

Title of the thread is "Backup goalie to Ottawa"

You guys are proposing and now you're "defending" your sale? Doesn't make any sense.

No idea, every goalie outside the top like 12-15 is a complete coin flip.

Just look at Georgiev, went from horrible backup to serviceable starter, to complete liability across 3 and a half seasons.

What I know right now is that Vladar has played well this season after getting an offseason surgery that was apparently lingering for most, if not all of last year. I know that 2 years ago when Maelstrom struggled and Vladar was getting consistent starts he played well. I know he has struggled when he's had scarce starts. I think he is much more suited for a 1A/1B role like he has had this season and for about half of the 22/23 season.

Sens do not need to ship off assets for a backup. Meralainen is likely better than Forsberg and very much looks like he's reached the level of an NHL backup or close to it.

More pressing would be getting a solid #4/5 d-man.

After playing well for about a half a season, Ottawa signed backup goalie Andrew Hammond to a 3 year deal (1.3M per). He was out of the league, essentially, by the end of it.

After playing well for about a half a season, Ottawa signed backup goalie Mike Condon to a 3 year deal (2.4M per). He was out of the league by the end of it.

After playing fine for about a year, Ottawa signed backup goalie Anton Forsberg to a 3 year contract (2.75M per). Looks like he could be on his way out of the league shortly. And I am shocked. SHOCKED I tell you.

And they keep paying more for the same mistake every time. It's bonkers to see history repeating itself like this.

Forsberg was fine until his injury a couple years ago.

Same gm for all 3 deals.

A strictly backup goalie should not be getting term

Forsberg was not signed as a strict backup. He was coming off a very good season as our #1 when he was signed (22-17-4, .917 SVP) and, despite struggling since, has arguably been our best option in net at all times til we acquired Ullmark.

Had he not suffered a major injury, I’d put good money on him having a solid reputatiom right now. He’s not in the same league of “flash in the pan” as Hammond and Condon, and will find work beyond this season imo.

Thank Hamonic for that, pushed hyman on him and blew out his knees. And dorion signed him with a no trade clause... so I guess dorions mark is still plaguing this team.

Yup, and it's not over. We're paying Korpisalo 1 M$ per season to play for the Bruins for 2 more years after this one. And most importantly, there's still a 1st round pick to forfeit due to the Dadonov fiasco

And the state of the prospect pool and general depth on the team is a testament to how much Dorion has damaged this team more than help it. Anybody can trade stars in their prime (Karlsson, Stone, Duchene, etc) and many would have gotten much better returns in the end. Anybody can also cumulate high end picks (but he even bothced most of them lmao)

At least the Hamonic burden will be over after this season.

Andrew Hammond and Mike Condon were really bad scouting. I called Hammond a flash in the pan right when he was posting these crazy good looking stats. Condon was an average back up at best to me.

Forsberg had a Top-10 season in 2021-22 but then got derailed by injuries.

All that said, Dorion is now gone at least.
