The thing I understand the least is the urgency.


Why do this now? Is another team desperate to snatch up Babcock?

Was another team even going to consider hiring Babcock between now and the start of next season?

...or the end of time?

Babcock will likely play a more uptempo system like Quennville does in Anaheim, Cassidy would have be more like Knoblauch (more conservative style of play) but tougher on the players.

Babcock's big challenge is going to be getting the goals against down.

He has leverage but so do the Oilers. There is a small chance they couldn’t find a mutual set point.

Question to you assuming you are a fan.

Why would that be funny at this point in the process and given the time to the draft and FA signings? Isn’t it in the orgs best interest to tidy this up and move forward? Methinks so.

I dont think people's concern is that he will hold famous millionaires accountable. I think people's concern is he WON'T hold the famous millionaires accountable, just the not-so famous millionaires.

I think that is partially why McDrai wanted him. He can kick the "passengers" down the lineup in the ass. Maybe it works?

I hope he holds McDrai accountable. They are great, but they need it.

Because we need a coach in place ASAP.
We had 2 of the nicest guy coaches ever in a row and didn't bring it home. Time for a hard ass maybe.

I'm just very curious to see if he does/doesn't

-go NucLeAr everytime things aren't going well. I get it, almost every coach loads up here and there, but our coaches make it a habit. Hopefully this gives us some answers as to if it's actually the players calling the shots

-Goes to McDrai after a PK. Again, every coach does this. Why? It never works

-and most importantly, a controlled zone breakout to the middle. Are these players coachable enough to actually not flip it out?

I think you're confusing Knoblauk with Coffey. Anyone who is anyone in the hockey world talked about Coffeys impact on how Edmonton looked like a completely different team. We all noticed it

This year is your proof. Team was pure ass, Coffey came in and they again had their best stretch. You think that's a coinkidink?

Knobby didn't take them to 2 finals. Coffey did. Knob took them to a putrid season when left to his own devices and now the players want the opposite of him

So I'm guessing the utter embarrassment in the playoffs this year had nothing to do with Coffey then, right?

I don't really give a flip what the "players want". The wanted Lucic, they wanted Ceci, they wanted Nurse extended, they wanted to keep Pickard around. All terrible moves.

Coffey is little more than Katz's friend. Knoblauch makes for an easy scapegoat just like Skinner did. And now we're going to trust a mediocre at best coach to guide an average defense and the league's worst goaltending to glory.

What makes it funny is the unprofessionalism, ineptitude, arrogance and dysfunction of management. This management is an embarrassment to the league, city and fans. When you have unqualified people in charge, this is what happens. I lost confidence in this teams management long ago and its unfortunate that the owner allows the incompetence to continue.

Until we get qualified and professional management in place, I will continue to make fun of these buffoons. It feels like we have Wile E. Coyote - Genius as the owner.

I love the league's attitude about this by the way.

Its like they were in disbelief:

Did I hear you right? You seriously want to hire this guy?
Okay then Edmonton... I guess... you're free to hire him then...

Why did the Kings sign Laviolette? And the Leafs with Hiller? Clearly Cassidy wasn't on the table so you move on. The draft and free agency is right around the corner. Bad signing or not, you have to get your ducks in a row fast and that starts with getting a head coach in time for that stuff.
