We're 8th in the league with a 11,3% shooting percentage. So while I share the frustration after a game like this, I don't think this is a thing of concern.Outside the BS inconsistent efforts, the most concerning thing is their awful team shooting.
I've never seen a team generate so many good looks only to either have their shot blocked by a dman or we just flat miss. Last night in the 1st period we had LOC open point blank and he flat misses the net, Mitts wide open in the slot gets his shot blocked, and Rants on the doorstep somehow manages to get his shot blocked. That's 3 good looks where the puck doesn't even get to the goalie.
This isn't a one time thing, they simply suck a shooting. Can't win games consistently when you struggle as much as the Avs do at forcing a goalie to make a save on good looks. They blow too many looks, it's not good, and not sure how to fix it.
We are 25th at 5v5 shooting %.We're 8th in the league with a 11,3% shooting percentage. So while I share the frustration after a game like this, I don't think this is a thing of concern.
It's not like the Avs can't score. Quite the opposite.
That sucks. But to flip a coin it can only even out and get better. We are 25th at 5v5 shooting %.
At the end of the day can the Avs score, yes absolutely. Do they squander countless good looks every game, yes. That sucks. But to flip a coin it can only even out and get better.
Edit to add:
Checked. All situations we've scored third highest goals. 5vs5 18th. With this injury storm in the top 6? Yeah not worried there at all.
Now look at this statistic post Georgiev trade. All situations we've scored third highest goals.
Should we bring Goerge back to run the powerplay?!?Now look at this statistic post Georgiev trade.

I figured with your response, just trying to make a funny.Since we got new goalies our numbers offensively went down significantly.
They'll come back.Since we got new goalies our numbers offensively went down significantly.

I don't put much stock into shooting percentages, teams eb and flow all year outside of a couple outliers either highly over or underperforming. Just providing 5v5 season numbers. They've been better since December 1st, they're up to 17th.
But I'm not sure if that stat is the end all be all. Florida is 32nd, Vegas is 27th, Buffalo is 1st ( ).
No Nuke. No real threat in front of the opponent's net.Maybe the ice was bad
Anything that keeps Rantanen from trying to be a slick stick handler/passer on the PP is good with me. When he does get the puck, it's pretty much a guaranteed turn over. After attending the game last night, I came to two conclusions.
1) Our PP desperately lacks two things, a trigger man in the bumper position and a net front presence.
The latter will be solved when Nuke and hopefully Landeskog come back.
The bumper position is more difficult because we don’t have anyone that resembles what Kadri would do there and that’s to fire the puck on net anytime it would come near him. I’d argue to try Rantanen at the bumper for a few games and put Drouin in Mikko’s spot. Makar barely even looks Mikko’s way on the PP so our best shooter is being wasted on the half wall barely getting puck touches.
2) The Avs simply can’t be bothered to give a 100% effort for a full 60 in the regular season. Get healthy, qualify for the playoffs, cya game 1, seems to be the theme here.
Yeah, I get that. And Nuke for some reason is one of our only players than can play down low. But we've scored goals without him before. No Nuke. No real threat in front of the opponent's net.
Teams know this, too. Overplay MacKinnon, force Makar to only go to Rantanen and watch Rantanen stickhandle right into traffic or make an unbelievably poor pass.Anything that keeps Rantanen from trying to be a slick stick handler/passer on the PP is good with me. When he does get the puck, it's pretty much a guaranteed turn over.
One timer or nothing.
The world wants Nuke back!!No Nuke, no coke. No wins.
It's simple
Absolutely true and to be honest, we are getting to a stage where we need to start questioning him. If there's a trade available which could help us right now, I would definitely consider it. Mits still has value around the league.
