I think they ARE gassed
I think Florida also cares less about where the finish in the standings, so I don't think they are pushing themselves in these games. Basically the same thing most cup champions have done. The leafs don't have that luxury.

Leafs played like junk last time they faced Colorado, I suspect you will see a better game from them tonight.
Let's hope so.

They started well... but just like the Florida and Ottawa games... they get up by 1 or 2 and let off the gas.. they've done this forever now.

No... you can't win them all but when you do it a few times in a row... including before that... pretty sure against San Hose they should of had that one easy and let up... plus Utah.. they just about blew that too.

I hope they figure their shit out but just this month ... there is a ton of examples.

They need to play every game now like it's already the playoffs.

Matthews said that the other day and they have to keep proving that game in and game out.

If they put in an honest effort and get beat... so be it... but if you don't go down swinging then f*** off... they're not ready for the playoffs then.

I don’t understand why they are playing Laughton at 4C.

If he’s not going to play 3C, why not give him an extended look at 2LW and at least use him to fill a glaring hole in this lineup

For a number of reasons. The Tavares and Nylander pairing have often been a defensive problem. Holmberg helps that, Laughton would make it worse.

Laughton really isn't a talented enough player to contribute on a second line, but on a fourth line, he should be decent. Frankly, I think the fourth line should be Lorentz-Kampf-Laughton.

The Holmberg-Tavares-Nylander line has had excellent results together.

Holmberg-Tavares-Nylander has 66.7% of the actual goals to go along with 62.8% xG.

They only allow 1.71 xGA60, and have only surrendered 1.6 goals against per 60.

It's really worked out well... so despite Holmberg being a meh player, that line is working very well with him on it.

Lines

Knies Matthews Marner - 55.3% Goals For 422 minutes
Robertson Domi McMann 58.8% Goals for 194 minutes
Holmberg Tavares Nylander 66.7% Goals for 112 minutes

I mean... each of those lines has very solid results.

It just comes down to how you sort out the 4th line..... I'd be inclined to go with Lorentz Kampf Laughton.
It’s unbelievable how many chances Holmberg fails to convert. I can’t see him there for the playoffs, Jarnkrok is a better it. Also, some think Laughton ends up there, which can work I think as well. This idea Holmberg is great defensively is a myth .

I didn't say he was bad, but certainly not as great as he was earlier in the season.

The guy in front was not as great they was... When you're allowing scoring chance after scoring chance... That will finish to goes in. That's coming together, if your D suck and losing every battle, hard to blame the goalie at the end.

9th in the league for xGA/60 for lines with 100+ minutes played... the line seems to be working defensively... guessing like always.

Hyman was like that on the leafs. I think there is room for more growth as a player and start being a more offensive threat. He’s come a long way this year

Holmberg was one of the players who stood out for me in last year’s playoffs.

He played hard and competed, and showed some sandpaper, hitting and getting into scrums.

With a gritty coach like Bérubé, I was hoping Holmberg would continue to find and develop his inner-assholeness, but I haven’t seen it.

Hoping he turns it on in the playoffs (ideally now), as he was effective and stood out to me for the right reasons last playoffs.

I have a feeling this will be the game of the season so far. Can't wait to see MacKinnon and Makar plus the Leafs tend to get up for big games. Pretty excited.
