I don't think Annunen is very good BUT I do think Bednar's leash with him was absurdly short. To the point of it being insane how much he prefers Georgiev.

Annunen had 4 starts above .920, 3 starts between .850-.875, and 2 starts where he was god awful and got pulled.

Georgiev has had 4 starts above .920, 5 starts between .850-.875, and 5 starts where he has been below .85p to downright horrible in the .600s.

One guy got absolutely torn to shreds by his head coach in games following poor play, even after wins like against Ottawa.

The other guy has consistently heard from his coach post game that "Georgie is our guy" and "I like how Georgie battled."

It's a clear double standard that Jared has and I just don't get it. Georgiev isn't some franchise goalie who needs that level of coddling.
It's easy to understand. CMac more than likely told Bednar that Georgiev is their guy this season and Bednar knows that he's going to win or lose with Georgiev. He doesn't give 2 shits about Annunen nor whoever the backup is.

All the eggs are in Georgiev's basket so he better take care of him.

I have too much going on in life to follow the Avs nightly like I used to, but after reading all these comments as sort of an outsider-looking-in, it seems blatantly obvious to me that this was a personality fit thing.

Annunen was possibly kicking up just as much of a storm as the rest of us do about Georgie’s play, and it eventually got him booted out of town.

That's possible.

In the end it doesn't matter. Annunen wasn't good enough to even be the backup regardless of any possible reasons. The opportunity was there for him to steal the starter job and he didn't play well enough to do it.

Then, he either just flat-out sucked or pouted and neither is good so I am glad they moved him out for an established backup.

I very much doubt that. Certainly not the way he had been playing of late.

There’s really no need to play overanalyze this, he has been by far the worse goalie following those two really stellar starts a few weeks ago when Georgiev was in the dumper. And after that game in Tampa, they were done with him.

Still hate the move but seems like it was telegraphed. Annunen got a minimum deal that made him easy to move, CMAC took a small gamble based on last years numbers. Its a compromise. If wedgewood came at 800k, we might have just went for him in the offseason. Bednar/our goaltending coach probably never bought into annunen, who is not an aggressive mobile goalie and the coaching staff wont adjust its system for a backup.

All this narrative around georgiev is probably overanalyzing it.

Well, with no "farewell" thread, I must say goodbye here.

So long, Jus! I'm sorry it didn't work out for you here, Gluck in Nashville or wherever.

And now I retire his pictures.
