He doesn't shoot the puck. 6 SOG in the past 17 games, 2 SOG in the past 9 games. I accept that he's a pass-first guy, but come on. He's doing nothing around the net. Floating around like Foudy.

The guy is probably spending all his free time watching Joe Thornton highlight reel videos. He wants those pass-to-goal goals.

That's absurd for a top 6 center who gets PP time.

I won't be surprised if he takes some time out for mental health...there's something wrong.

Yeah, this could ring a bell.

Manson, as expected, was bad but I’ll cut him some slack, first game back and all.

He really wasn't, though. You just hate the guy and it's been like that for a while now.

Manson made one mistake in the 3rd period that I recall with a giveaway/turnover.

He was physical all game, kept the puck in their zone, distributed the puck well, was a presence the entire game. He had an unreal backdoor pass to Kelly from the blueline who somehow missed the net altogether, you even refer to it in your post but give no credit to the pass that created the opportunity.

I don't know, man. Either you evaluate your D on some whole other criteria and that's totally fine, or you have a general disdain for him. You didn't want him extended, call it the worst mistake we've made, and just bash him every single game.

I know that, as a goaltender, he's the type of guy I want in front of me on a nightly basis. As an opposing forward, I'd imagine he's the last guy on the Avs blueline you want to consistently go up against as well. We don't have anybody else like him.

I'd hate to read what you say about him when he ACTUALLY has a bad game...

To me, the eye test told that Girard - Manson had the roughest game out of the Dmen. I thought Sammy was invisible (guess it's a good thing then) and made a small mistake short handed, when Utah scored. I like Malinski - de Haan as the 3rd pairing.

EDIT: and yeah, Manson wasn't bad at all and was quite engaged.

I thought de Haan was easily our worst defender, again going with eye test.

He iced the puck at least 3 times completely needlessly simply because he couldn't complete a pass into the neutral zone under a bit of forechecking pressure. He got the headless chicken syndrome defending on a couple of shifts, running around covering absolutely nobody. I thought he was bad defensively, bad in transition/breakouts, and just average offensively where he's usually pretty decent getting pucks on net and picking out a pass in the offensive zone.

McDavid is nothing like Matthews. Dude willed his team to game 7 last year SCF.
Agreed. Much better overall makeup than Mathew’s, but his defensive play lacks, never plays physical and will not drop the gloves. Yelling in the locker room only goes so far.

What do you mean and? Context doesn't mean anything to you?
You said 0-3 in game 7s for 29, and my response was, and? Like so what, he has a cup, McDavid doesn't.

You also happen to not mention that 2 of the 3 game 7s 29 played in were nothing he could do games. One was when he was an 18 year old rookie never going to expect a rookie to carry a game 7 especially in his first ever series, one we played in the bubble with what our 4th string goalie, which we still almost won. The only one that leaves a bad taste was the Seattle one where 29 scored the tying goal in the 3rd period, only to have it called back because 62 couldn't bother to stay onside.

But I care a lot less about these losses because 29 and team got it done 1 year and won the cup.

Calvin De Haan is quite easily the worst dman this team has regularly iced since it became a perennial playoff team starting in 2017. I can't stand how he plays.

You'd get way more use out of Middleton crushing dudes in front of the net and blocking shots on the PK. I hope the staff notices and gives Middleton a chance.

If you judge players based on cups then I guess Nathan MacKinnon is behind every single hockey player to ever win more than one cup.

Oh, and thanks for the context. He's actually 0-4* in game 7s.

I was too wrapped up in Latvia's WJC miracle to watch this game - only saw the highlights just now.

Good on Lehkonen. Another fantastic outing by Blackwood.

I think a lot of people are either ignorant of or haven't accounted for the change in Colorado's goaltending and how that is going to be reflected in the team's performance and the standings. Like, they may not grasp just how many games bad goaltending cost the Avs this season and are instead under some lazy assumption that this team as a whole is mediocre.

I expect that perception to change pretty quickly as Colorado continues to rise.

Right now we’re jinxing our new goalies big time. Watch Blackwood allow 8 goals on 12 shots next game

Yeah I have to say, I ripped on Manson a few times early on in the 1st. To me he looked rather rusty to start. That said, as the game progressed, he really turned it on and started controlling the ice. I think he had a very solid game overall.
