Cap space allowed to goaltending at the start of this year: 4.2M
Next year: 6.75M

It's more but only 2.5M more.

With the Blackwood signing the Avs now have $72.145m committed for 2025/26 to 9 forwards, 4 defensemen, and 2 goalies.

The cap is projected to rise to at least $92.4m, so that leaves $20.255m for two first line forwards, two 4th line/depth forwards, and three no.5-7 Dmen. Rantanen will eat about $12-13m of that, leaving $7-8m for the rest.

What an amazing Christmas present to the Blackwood family.

Short sample size, but I‘be preferred him to Keumper and given the time that has passed it’s a better contract in terms of % of cap.

Have to imagine this means Nabokov is on the block.
This doesn't put Nabokov on the block at all, far from it.

The Avs have Blackwood and Wedgewood as a tandem next year, with Nabokov likely in the AHL, and then in 2026/27 Nabokov will (hopefully) get promoted to the backup role and eventually compete with Blackwood for the starter spot.

I expect Cal Ritchie to stick next year.

Lehkonen up to LW1. Colton either LW2 or 3C. Ritchie either RW2(Nuke to left) or 3C.

I don't love it, but he was the best option available at the time of the trade and he'll be the best moving forward.

Goalies are just inherently risky unless you're willing to shell out $8-10 mil.

Landy can't come back, it's as simple as that. If he does they have to trade several players and replace them with shitty league minimum AHLers and there's no way it won't make the team significantly weaker.

If he doesn't come back they have to use the 7M to re-sign Drouin (4M) which will leave 3M to get a 4th liner and 2 dmen.

No money to keep a 13th fwd or a 7th D with the team. Gonna be fun to deal with injuries.

I kinda wish we would've let him play out the season before re-upping, but I guess the Avs didn't like the risks involved with that. With the News about Nabokov hitting earlier today, I guess this means the writing is on the wall for Wedgy.
