So one year in the AHL then 4 years behind Blackwood? I would imagine he burns a year off and is almost a UFA before 4 years have passed. Not saying he will automatically be moved, but our goalie landscape has completely flipped since we drafted him

No, I'm saying if he proves himself to be worthy of more starts in 2027-28 after 1 year(2025-26) as Eagles #1 and 1 year(2026-27) as Avs backup, the Avs will find a way to get out of the Blackwood deal.

We finally have goaltending depth and options for the next few years. There's zero rush to move on from a prospect.

The main board is a very angry place.
Didn't go to the main board but came accross some stupid Twitter comments so I assume it's similar

Imagine thinking that it's "a trend" for the Avs to overpay their goalies

This isn't angry, it's just run of the mill completely ignorant nonsense. HF seems personally offended by the signing.

You made me look and I wish I didn't

Most people only remember him sucking and choking in NJ so that's understandable I guess

The amount of idiotic, out of context, knee-jerk reactions by the vast majority on HF to anything is not surprising. There’s inherent risk in any deal, especially with goalies. Based on all the internal factors with this team and the external factors with the league, this is a good signing. Happy to have the goalie position addressed for the foreseeable future!

This doesn't block Nabokov at all.

If Nabokov comes over next season he plays the full year in the AHL, then Wedgewood is done and Nabokov can play the full year as Blackwood's backup with ~25-28 games.

After that, if Nabokov looks like he is ready for more, the Avs can easily get out of 3 years of Blackwood when the cap it likely well over 100M.

Who else would you get at that money and term? It’s just 4 games in but if he turns out to have an excellent finish to the season that could easily turn into 5x6-7. Don’t think his play will dip it could but I think this guy has more mental upside then George could ever bring, also think cmac seen how bad it can be without ANY goaltending and said that can’t happen again

this has to signal a Mikko trade, doesn't it? Cap money has gotta be running thin

What does signing a starting goaltender that we had to do regardless(Georgiev's contract done after this season) have to do with Mikko?

I'm not sure why people are jumping to all of these conclusions. "This must mean Nabokov is on the block." "This signals a Mikko trade." What? The Avs extended their newly acquired starting goaltender for a run-of-the-mill price.

If Mikko needs to be extended for a ~$3m increase on his current salary, you fire Miles Wood and his $2.5m to the moon or some other shit. Cap going up, too. Nothing significant.
