Last night was a perfect reason why Im not a big fan of things like +/- or other related stats because a couple of blow outs in either direction sway it greatly.

If I were a betting man I would bet my money that the difference between us making the playoffs and not making the playoffs is +/- 4 points. While we have lost that game 3-2 or 8-2 in regulation last night it keeps coming back to those 9 otls. Had we won just 4 more of those there would be a little breathing room.

It doesnt help that Boston, New York, Washington, and Detroit are like the 4 hottest teams in the league right now.

When does Boston or Detroit go on a 2 week deathly roadtrip? They keep playing Buffalo and New Jersey.

We can look at it like that, OR we can look at it in a sense that if we didn't battle back for those OTL's, then we wouldn't even be sniffing the playoffs right now.

These guys have fought back countless times this season to muster at least a point. Can't really fault them for not winning games where we didn't even expect to get anything (i.e being down 2 to Nashville and coming back with less than a minute or being down 3-1 to the Isles with less than 10 minutes to go).

Those points will go a long way. We've won our fair share of shootouts too.

My thoughts as well. The crying about OT losses is puzzling for me.

I like to think of it as we battled for those points or we wouldn't be in it, but then again there's always the possibility of

We are an 85 point team unless we play 100% every game 60 minutes.

We don't have the talent level and/or experience to mail it in.

Some have called us overachievers, whatever...good teaching lesson what happens when we take a day off.

So the boys will rebound tomorrow in front of the home crowd, im confident

Excellent points! I could not agree more.

"Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard."

This team have won games because of hard work. Plenty of teams may have more talent than the Panthers, but if this team works hard I firmly believe they can beat anyone.

The Wild comes to mind as far as maybe having more talent, Philadelphia also, but it's about working hard. The team has enough mixture of talent and hard workers to make noise in this league.

GR reporting the Cats are 5 hrs late leaving Winnipeg due to mechanical problems. They had to change planes to a Sun Country jet. This is the type of aggravation you don't need after a loss. Who do the Cats normally use for their charters?

They Charter a Miami Air plane (most teams use them).

What better way to do some much needed team-bonding than by sitting at an airport all day :sarcasm:

How did we lose out on that again? Head to head record?

I believe so, the NHL should do what the MLB does, Game 163..... We should get game 83, Marketing machine, build a rivalry, nothing better than starting the playoffs with a game 7, right? That's if the ROW is the same for both teams.

That second tiebreak loss to Montreal was when I was convinced this franchise was cursed forever. To miss after a record drought like that... Wanted playoffs so badly that year.

Yeah, I see that they have a first class configuration for their 737-400 as most of the guys are rather large. The problem with this is these planes were produced between 1981 and 2000, making them a minimum of close to 15 years old and a max close to 35 yrs old. Not exactly the type of plane you want to have to rely on mechanically.

They fly a lot less than standard commercial planes. Plus it's a 14k mile trek over two weeks, if some issues were to happen it is probably now

Especially when Ballard blew a wide open net in OT in one of the games and rang it off the post. Thanks for the bad memories :help::laugh::cry:

Dale Tallon on 640 with Sid Rosenberg earlier this morning.

Sid asked Dale to imagine what this team could do if they had a powerplay and Dale responded by saying as far as personnel that he'll address it in the offseason, but now all Gallant should probably do is stick with two powerplay lineups and let guys develop their confidence. He also talked about the East getting stronger and how the Panthers will need to find more ways to score in order to get points down the stretch. He talked about how the games are going to get much harder soon.

Sid also asked about getting this team a sniper or a high profile player. Dale responded by saying that it's the next step if one doesn't emerge from the draft. He said he'll get this team what it needs if "that guy" is out there and if the deal is right and if he fits well with the club.

Tallon also talked about how he has been impressed with the group and their ability to motivate themselves throughout the game even if the home crowds have been lackluster. He said the importance of a good home crowd is huge because it gives guys an extra spark to elevate their game. Of course this isn't verbatim of what Dale said, but just a simple summary since the interview just happened a half hour ago.

So I guess we gotta sit around and hope for 2 things:
1. Our powerplay magically gets better
2. A superstar scorer appears in the draft and happens to be the player we draft (and isn't picked by someone else)

maybe but we can't turn into the perfect team in one season.... I think we should take a step back and realize we have come a long way this year.. Yah veterans like luongo and mitchell have been huge... but these vets doing their jobs help our youth develop.
I am happy with this season if it stays as is. Of course we need to make playoffs

Playoffs is still unliklely this year, just being realistic about it. Lots of things will have to fall in line for it to happen.
