I think this could be a real option for Colorado. They're extremely low on trade ammo.

The OP suggested Girard+Wood, but Colton+Wood might make more sense for the Rangers. Not sure.

Much easier to fix than a 2C. You can wait til the tdl. You can trade Colton ++.

Girard is useless in the playoffs.

NYR receive Girard and Wood

AVS receive Zibanejad (no retention)

NYR find a way to get Zibby to waive his NMC. He might to play with Landy on a contender.

Avs get rid of charmin soft pmd Girard. They throw in a capdump in Miles Wood and get Zibby was came on strong late last season.

This is a high risk trade for the Avs who have no prospects/ picks and few assets to net a 2C. So they have to gamble as they don’t have the assets to trade for a better option. This also assumes Nelson walks which is likely. Zibby might be motivated to play with Landy.

For NYR its a fresh start. With Girard they have the option to trade KAM if his demands are high and recoup picks/prospects. The NYR are a soft team and Miles Wood may provide some bite on the 4th line or in the AHL…

You are just filling up New York's already clogged lineup with more drift wood and girbage.
Zibanejad is still a 2C minimum. 62 points in arguably his worst season as a Ranger. He's going to have a bounce back. The Rangers are better off reassessing in Nov Dec. This type of trade would really just be cutting ones nose to spite their face, but then sticking a Mr. Potato Head nose in the vacant nose spot.

Wood is not teh anchor youre making him out to be even if you sit him, AHL him, or buy him out.

$8.5M for 6 more years (32-37yo) for 62 points (likely to only decrease) and useless defensively is that anchor and youll need to pay to move that until he drastically improves.
