GDT: Avs @ Habs

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I don't get the BW hate. Sure, the 3rd one was a bit weak, but other than that?!?

Avs played a really good road game for 50 minutes, and then they forgot how to hockey.

Probs to the Canadians, they are playing pretty well lately and they are in a dogfight for the
last playoff spot. Everyone who thinks they are a pushover is out of his mind. THIS is a good
hockey club. And WE are still trying to figure shit out (while missing our 2nd D-Pair).

Overall happy with the road trip. 4/6 is fine, these were 3 good teams we played against.
And we all know that we deserved better @TOR. But that's hockey ...

I dont want to sound arrogant, but we let them back into this game. Probs that they fought for this, but if we dont forget, again, how to close this out, this game never goes in a SO, not even OT.

That doesnt take away anything from Montreal, a team on the rise and, IMO, playoff-bound. But this game was almost lost by the AVS, and not won be the Canadians.

Better this shit happens now. I really hope they learn from it and avoid it in the playoffs.

All in all a nearly perfect road trip. Allthough we were robbed by at least a point in Toronto because of that "flying superman in stripes"

3rd and 4th were both horrendous goals, and he himself said after the game he wants them back.

I don't think anyone is really worried about him, or anything like that. People are just calling him out for a bad game, and he almost cost us the win. This was the first game he's had with us that was like this.

I don't think it becomes a trend, I just think he's a bit off after he missed time with illness. It's going to correct itself.

I only suggested that we consider starting Wedgewood in the shootout. I never suggested making him the number one. Oh, except for that stupid "There is another Wood" Yoda meme. But those were, as you very well know, shit posts made in a GDT where the Avs nearly turtled themselves out a victory in a game they were up 4-1.

I got .5 gram of the goods still left. Let's hash this out together like civilized human beings. *LOL*
For the record, I was NOT talking to you. Some people suggested we need to start Wedge in the playoffs - you must have those people on ignore.

Sorry guys. That one was my fault. I really wanted both teams to get a point. I actually wanted Montreal to get the extra one since they need it more than the Avs. I honestly think the ideal outcome for the Avs is to end up the top wild card so their path in the playoffs leads through the Pacific rather than the murderer's row that is the Central. It puts me in a weird position of cheering for the Wild, but not actively - never actively.

If you're wondering why it says Heretic under my name, this kind of stuff is why. I should probably be burned at the stake. Blame me, not Blackwood.

The path through the pacific is probably easier to get to the WCF, but then you likely face either Winnipeg (who is better than last year) or Dallas, who will have a healthy and rested Heiskanen.

I think I’d rather them take on Dallas round one without Heiskanen and try to beat the DeBoer curse, I think it would do wonders for their confidence.

Are you a Habs fan ahead of an Avs fan or something?

Blackwood has not looked the same to me post 4-Nations. He continues to let weak shots go in, particularly blocker side and I have some concerns with his confidence at the moment. People will hang it on him getting sick, but prior to missing the March 14th start he had a save percentage of .894 (14g on 132s) in 6 games. This has continued after being sick, but to a larger degree on a smaller sample size (6 on 49).

On top of this MacKinnon has been struggling to find consistency with just 3 points in his last 6 games. He’s looked tired to me, part of that is probably 10 games in 19 days with a large amount of games in the drought being on the road.

These guys are two major focal points of a long playoff run, hopefully it’s just them taking a bit of a mental break to be prepared for the playoffs, but it’s becoming a concerning trend.

BBW was able to at least be solid in the shootout.
The small silver lining to the whole thing is that they snuck out with a win even after a collapse. Not too long ago they’d have found a way to lose that in regulation.
Other players improved after goal 4 as well. Had some good passage at the end of regular game and dominated overtime.

No need to make a drama out of this. They played well, were 4:1 up, Thought they can cruise toward easy win, but Montreal is playing for playoffs and would not have it, played like men possesed and were rewarded for the effort. They had much more at stake than us.

Surely in playoffs the concentration levels will be higher.

I don't like that.
I wouldn't either if I were you. Thus the burning at the stake suggestion.

Honestly I can't help it - my Dad and Grandpa are both huge Habs fans, so cheering against them is very, very difficult for me. I've also been to a game in Montreal (one of two NHL games I've ever attended), and lived briefly in Montreal, and have yet to even visit Denver let alone see a game there.

This is a good point, but I'm kind of hoping the other wild card knocks out Winnipeg and Minnesota takes a lot out of Dallas.

Zero concerns on MacKinnon. He was bound to cool off a little bit and is getting used to not having Necas on his wing.

The expectations for Blackwood were getting too high. He’s not a top-5 goaltender. He’s an average to above average starter imo, not elite.

People shouldn’t expect him to be stealing games for this team on any kind of consistent basis. As long as he’s not blowing games that’s good enough for the Avs.

Third goal was weak and didn't love the fourth goal either. But Blackwood had a massive save on Carrier (I think, it's not in the game recap) not long after. Avs had a total breakdown and Carrier walked right in, that should've been a goal. So IMO that off-sets one of the goals. Bottom line is Montreal was all over the Avs in the second half of the third, it was ugly. But they found a way to win, so can't complain.

Even elite goalies might not have done much better when we just completely break down for a short period of time. Need leadership on the ice to get momentum or stop opponent momentum.

It’s happened to every goalie at some point whether it’s Reto Berra or Patrick Roy. Like I said last night, if it was happening consistently I’d be worried but with one bad night just use it a learning tool and fix it before the playoffs.

Avs played a strong 50 Minutes but clearly expected Montreal to give up at 4-1 and then they took 10 minutes off didn't get any quality saves, and just like that it was 4-4.

Ultimately got the 2 points and looked phenomenal yet again until they took their foots off the gas so I'm not worried at all.

Still dominating teams and still winning games.
