I will say this.

If we believe the Avs development will f*** up Ritchie or if we don’t believe he will really become a legit top 6 forward, his value will absolutely be at the highest heading into this trade deadline.

He’s the 1C for Team Canada at the World Junior Championship. Every team will be seeing him likely dominate.

Good point. Just keep him away from Loveland. That place is the kiss of death for forward prospects. If he can’t realistically make it to the Avs without going to Loveland first, they should really consider using his elevated value.

Yeah but it will take more than Mitts to get Sid. Something like Mitts, Ritchie and a 1st for Crosby with salary retention
So you want to trade the current 2C, a potential future 2C and one of our few 1sts for a 37 year old (albeit elite) 2C who won't be here in 3 years? What then? No assets. No tradeable contracts. No pipeline. Ridiculous payroll situation, assuming you bring Mikko back.

While I am at it: Does that haul include Crosby retained? If not, where is the $8,700,000 coming from? For that matter, where is the $4,350,00 coming if the Pens actually did retain 50% ( highly unlikely.)

His post clearly states “Mitts, Ritchie and a 1st for Crosby with salary retention

Here’s another way of looking at it…

- That 1st round pick won’t ever help us in our contending window.
- Ritchie was already in Bednar’s doghouse and may not materialize into a Bednar top 6 forward.
- Mittelstadt will never reach Crosby’s level anyhow and is also on a 3 year contract where we won’t be able to afford his UFA salary at the end of the term.

MacK-Crosby immediately become the best 1-2 C punch in the NHL or second if you want to consider Drai a full-time 2C. Crosby brings leadership we have desperately lacked. Our closing Cup window is strengthened as much as it possibly could be.

If you move Mittelstadt out in that trade then his caphit more than covers Crosby's caphit if there's significant retention.

The future will be somewhat sacrificed but we can possibly win 2 more cups with Sid. I think I’ll take the cups and worry about the future and the rebuild later. And if I’m giving up that much for 37 year old Crosby, he should come with salary retention

Craig Button on his Canada-Finland preview says Canada will be leaning heavily on Ritchie who is “physically and mentally mature ahead of 95% of the players in this tournament.”

Says Ritchie’s ability to make players around him better will be a huge asset, setting up tons of players for good looks and easy goals. Calls him an elite playmaker.

Yes yes and more yes. As tough of a pill it would be to swallow, I make a Mitts, Ritchie, 1st trade for Crosby retained every day and twice on Sunday. The next 2-3 years are all that matters.

Brother guy, in 3 years time:

Devon Toews is 34
Nathan MacKinnon is 32
Artturi Lehkonen is 32
Valeri Nichushkin is 32
Mikko Rantanen is 31
Cale Makar is either the highest paid player in the league or playing for Calgary.

The Avs will be a mediocre club anyways likely just trying to compete for wildcard spots ala the current Penguins.

If you could get 2/3 runs out of Sid to really push for 1/2 more Stanley Cups, you make that trade all day.

Also Crosby looks like he could play 2C on a cup team until he's 45 if he really wants to.

I know if you look at the NHL website it says we are 6th in the West/ 3rd in the Central. But when you sort it by P%... we are 8th in the West with .583. I'd say we pretty much already are a mediocre club trying to compete for a wildcard spot.

Gimme 10 more games with these two goalies and I'll answer as to what kind of team I think we've got.

Our starter is rocking a 2.03 GAA and a .931 4GP

Our backup is 1.93 GAA and .932 6GP

I wouldn't say we are mediocre team. We started the season with 4L. The Avs weren't playing that bad during those games considering all the injuries we had and especially the atrocious goaltending.

Since then the Avs are 21-11 which is a .656 P% which put us 6th in the league overall. Since we got new goalies on Dec 3rd the Avs are 8-3 which is a .720 P% which put us 2nd overall in the league behind Vegas at .721 P%.

I know we need to see how they are going to do against stronger teams with the new goalies but IMO it is encouraging so far. We will see.

I should've added the sarcasm emoticon. I, too, believe that our new goalies will end up making a ton of difference in the rate at which we accumulate points.

I kinda figured you were being sarcastic lol, but I just wanted to post our goalie stats. It's way more fun to look at having the league's best tandem since the change.
