It's awesome to me that Cogliano of all people is taking the time to do that. In all likelihood, he and Ritchie will never actually be teammates. Even if Ritchie hits his ceiling as a player, Cogs will probably be retired before Ritchie makes his NHL debut.
He also doesn't wear a letter, isn't a star and makes close to league minimum. He certainly doesn't have to do that and no one would expect him to do so. Awesome indeed.

I can see Cogs becoming a development coach with the Avs when he retires. Which may happen after this year.

Role players especially tend to take on that role, because they made less during their career, and it also gives them a pathway towards a post playing career in the game. Like McLeod in Minny.

May or may not have played into his conversations with Ritchie. He's a team first guy all the way too though, so it could just be that.

He is not exactly poor

Made 33mil in his career

He wasn't always fourth liner.

He wears a letter when there are other injuries. He seems to be behind Toews in the order this year.

By all accounts Cogliano is the ultimate professional and like everyone else I hope he stays in the organisation somehow when he does retired.

True, but that's because he's played 17 seasons, and nobody that's played a year or two in the NHL is strapped for cash.

Most he's made in the NHL is $3.25M. That's why I said he made less than others. Lot of years making $1-2.4M.

Really it's about giving guys an opportunity to see if they want to have a post playing career in the game though, which some do, and Cogs might.

Apparently he thought he would, especially when he was put in charge of hiring one.
Let’s think about that…. You are put in charge of hiring a new GM to turn the organization around and you decide the best man for the job is you? Sounds about right.

Watching the game, he's definitely skilled, smooth and uses his body/size well. Not the forechecking beast like a LOC, but uses his stick well. Kind of a RyJo in his prime.

Dude killed it again last night with a 2G + 2 apple game. Now Up to 1.59 PPG. +21 in just 22 games. dragged his team from last place to 2 points out of first since his return from offseason surgery. He’s vastly improved over last season.

ritchie and Gulyayev are crushing their post draft seasons. Did the Avs actually draft well for once? The Avs two 2023 1st round picks look super promising so far.

No. The answer is no they didn't draft well. Not last year. Not now. Not ever.

The sad fact remains that Dylan Strome would probably be an upgrade to our 2C problem.
He'd be a massive improvement. Not sure Strome would really be enough to fill the role on a contender, but he's at least a low end #2C. The issue with Strome types is they are just good enough to get paid more than you'd like given their weaknesses. That's the reason Strome hasn't stuck on two teams that desperately needed center help.

So you’re saying he’s Ryan Strome instead of Dylan? What type of player does he play best with? What’s holding him back from being the same caliber as Dylan aka a “low end 2C”?

Is there any hope he’s better or is Dylan is absolute peak?

Ultimately if he ends up being an elite 3C I’m happy with the pick for a late first.

I’d say no two players are ever exact copies and players can always change or click. Until
I see more snarl and willingness to be a dirty area player, I won’t project that in his game.

I expect a player that is too talented to be a 3C so will be tried as a 2C and when it doesn’t work he bounces around until he finds a spot there on a bad team or moves over to wing.
