Confirmed with Link: Avs claim G Kaapo Kähkönen off waiwers from WPG

They probably know it better than anybody else. They’ve seen these guys in for a while around the team and in practice. Kahkonen less of a sample, but Annunen they know better than anybody.
Yeah well, in this instance once again, the goalie coach and Bednar disagree. Who do you trust more?

Bednar gets the ultimate say. Clamoring for more starts does not equate to higher ceiling though. Stability has a role… evaluation is another. A goalie coach will want more tape to work with a player.

Would've liked to see him given more than a one game sample size, but the writing was on the wall from the beginning. The claim was always meant to be a fire to light under Georgie's ass, and now Bednar has talked himself into believing it worked. Whoopdee

I know people don't want to hear it but the truth is...Georgiev is the best goalie on the Avalanche roster. That doesn't mean he's good, just means the other two aren't really good enough either.

I just hope this means they're buying themselves time to make a bigger move at or before the deadline.

It’s a cap move that helps them activate Nuke.

They know they don’t have another guy with George’s ceiling. Yeah his floor is the ocean floor… but they need the ceiling. I hate it, but it is predictable.
The ceiling doesn’t matter if he can’t even handle basic fundamentals. It don’t matter if he can make the highlight reel saves if he can’t make the simple ones. Why can’t Bednar see that? His positioning is horrible, his rebound control is horrible.

He absolutely is not the best goalie. I don't care what sort of tools he has to work with. If he can't use them, then they are useless. The Avs will win more games with Annunen because at the end of the day, he won't let in as many goals. Even if teams knows he's slow side to side, that doesn't matter when the "starter" is allowing 4+ goals a game. The Avs and Bednar can pray and hope until their blue in the face that George will put it together, but it's not happening.

They need to quit f***ing around and play Annunen already. He's lost 1 game as the starter, he absolutely gives us the best chance to win.

Also size is a tool as well, something Fourgiev lacks.

I think people need to chill a bit here. Yes George has been bad apart from one or two starts. But annunen has started 6 games this year. That's half of his career high in starts. You can't just throw him into 60 starts. Like it or not, George is going to get a lot of starts too. George has started 9 so far. We will see juice again soon.

Starts?
Starts.

I imagine he CAN see that but he also sees that the other two guys aren’t good enough to shoulder the load either.

At the very least, they have to build up enough goodwill around the league to make Georgiev more movable.

Mandolese is having a very good start in the AHL so maybe Kahkonen will not be needed. 🤞🤞

He's the new JoJo. Even has an alliterative name. Even their masks are basically identical.

Yeah, he is. People need to understand that just because Annunen looked good in an EXTREMELY small sample size doesn't mean he's a better option. He does have superior rebound control, but he simply gets beat clean way too often to be a viable starter. And that's only going to get worse the more opposing teams see of him. The book will be out on him before long and once that happens, he'll be back in Europe.

Neither guy is an option given their aspirations, so this is all kind of a moot argument, but if we're talking about which guy is better, it's obviously George. Keep in mind, the guys who see Annunen on a daily basis--his teammates--smoke him regularly in practice according to TMV. He's just not that good, no matter how much we really want him to be. He's a poor man's version of Jonas Johansson.
