Confirmed with Link: Avs claim G Kaapo Kähkönen off waiwers from WPG

Do you actually have information that confirms this or are you just going off speculation?

Parkkila did an interview like 2-3 weeks ago where he said he's been clamoring for Annunen to get more games and getting a shot at the starter spot for a while, but he doesn't talk to Bednar much and all decisions on who plays are with Bednar. He's not consulted for which guy plays which game or against which opponent.

It's going to be utterly hilarious when he finally plays, we lose 4-1, and he gets put back on waivers.
Boom.

The reality is that he simply isn't a huge upgrade on Georgiev and Annunen. Not that it is fair to judge him based on one game where he was held out to dry, but Avs really made a mess of things here. Spent way too long figuring his paperwork out to realise he isn't that special.

Okay, that answers my question. Thank you.

There is some strategy to keeping him 30 days, but I don’t know what because I can’t read the CBA without my head exploding.
The 30 days just stops Kahkonen from being reclaimed and stashed without waivers. The Avs want to be able to have that stash right in case he is claimed and re-waived.

Winnipeg can claim him and send him straight to the AHL right?

This is what the CBA says.

13.22 When a Club claims a Player on Regular or Unconditional Waivers, and, subsequently,in the same season it requests Waivers on the same Player and the original owning Club is thesuccessful and only Club making a Waiver claim, then the original owning Club shall be entitledto Loan such Player to a club in another league within thirty days without further Waivers beingasked; provided that such Player has not participated in ten or more NHL Games (cumulative)and remained on an NHL roster more than thirty days (cumulative) following such successfulclaim.

Bolded is very important here.

That person is incorrect on their interpretation.

As with most things in the CBA, it's quite ambiguous.
The question comes down to how games are counted for backup goalies. Kahkonen only played in one and I think was the backup 3 times. Which wouldn't meet the 10 games side of the provision... but goalies have a host of different rules when it comes to games counted. I would think there is a possibility that he doesn't have enough games.

What I can't figure out is, the wording say ten games or 30 days after the sucessful claim, but it doesn't specify which claim they are referring to.

We really just going to give Fourgiev the starter job back after one good game and one OK game? **** Bednar man.
They know they don’t have another guy with George’s ceiling. Yeah his floor is the ocean floor… but they need the ceiling. I hate it, but it is predictable.

They dont know that. Bednar has just made up his mind.
They probably know it better than anybody else. They’ve seen these guys in for a while around the team and in practice. Kahkonen less of a sample, but Annunen they know better than anybody.
