I stopped watching after the first period to watch Pride and Prejudice with a friend of mine. Better use of my time, I think.

This also seems suboptimal.

What does it say about our supposed vaunted drafting and developing where we don't have a single viable call up that'd be upgrade in the bottom 6? It's 4 goals combined from our 3rd line the past 30 games. Beleive 32 games for our highest paid /tenured bottom 6er

This team needs an entire new third line. Our top 6 wasn't great tonight either. But they've carried the bill the last 20+ games.

We're eating the shit sandwich of years of deadline rentals eroding our draft capital...for better or worse.

We burned a lot for 40 games of having an amazing top 3 down the middle. But it wasn't sustainable when we didn't sign guys back and had the hole remaining. Stastny move was an all-time deadline deal, Hayes deal was a total flop.

I bet if you did a graph of our bottom six scoring this year it would match our p% because it really does seem that as soon as we stopped getting production our entire game went into the tank

The team needs to figure things out. Our top 6 is ice cold and has been for a while now. We got zero support from the bottom 6. We also aren't as diligent defensively as we have been so we are struggling mightily.

Not sure what Chevy is going to do or should do but we aren't one big piece away from contending if our top players continue on as they have. We went all in in 2019 when the team was in a similar spiral and we all know how that turned out. Chevy is going to have to earn his money next week.
If he chooses to do nothing (or very little) prior to the trade deadline, it may very well effect the probability of the Scheif, Helly, Dubois being willing to re-sign with the club.

17-15-0 is nowhere near a panic button record, especially when there's reasonable statistical evidence that we're missing breaks along the way. Maybe we're not really a first place team? Maybe not yet? Let's see what Chevy does to fix that.

If you want a good analysis of how we stack up to all the other playoff position teams, again, let me repost Shayna Goldman's article from last week.

And also, if you don't already follow Ms. Goldman, follow her. And if you don't have an Athletic subscription, get one.

The good stuff.

Dude, being barely above .500 does not make the playoffs. This team is positively putrid right now. Either they're not getting the bounces, or they're getting decimated.

I'm almost at the point where I'm wondering if our core outside of Helle and JoMo is good enough especially if PLD is leaving no matter what.

I like Mark but I'd be hard pressed to put him in the top 15 to 20 at his position now. Can we win with him as our number 1 center as he enters his 30's?

Replace Laine's huge first half goal scoring to barely scoring with Dubois 100 point first half pace to 65-70 point 2nd half pace as your enigma.
Good point too. Dubois once again gone ghost toward tail end of the year.

well it's pretty obvious that nobody in the bottom is capable of adding any offense and we accrued plenty of cap space to make multiple deals, heck rangers added tank and might be getting kane and they had less... the time to make moves is now and not next week

Chevy needs to go all in.
What does Helly have 2 more years?

Who steps in for Mark if he leaves? I firmly believe PLD is gone at the draft. We’re hooped if both are gone.

Fell asleep sometime during the third period, but I didn't miss much, did I? Anyway, I give this game one poo emoji out of five...

The Prediction Contest for the Islanders game has been posted and I have some good news to report...

Yes indeed, congratulations to @WaveRaven who got the trifecta tonight picking the correct team to win, the correct score, and the correct player to score the opening goal. Way to go!

Now, don't all of you rush at once to sign up to create your very own GDT. @Ginger Papa has the next game, but after that, it's all yours...

scheifele has been pretty shafted this year with linemates tbh when we had the 3 top 6ers out he was with plugs while pld had connor and now he's stuck with appleton. I'm more disappointed in pld's game

We’re hooped either way. Scheifele must know that there is no winning in Winnipeg. I doubt he’ll sign for under 10 million. He needs a fresh start elsewhere

How do you move on from Scheifele while simultaneously telling Hellebuyck that the team is a contender and convincing him to stay? Retooling seems like a crapshoot at the best of times with more teams becoming consistently mediocre after moving on from key players rather than actually finding improvement as a result.

This is kind of where I struggle to see a future with this core if they don't go out and get a big fish rental. And that's all kinds of troubling because mortgaging the future for a core that could be dismantled in very short order is kind of terrifying.

Sometimes it feels like Lowry is content to just break even, that he's not even trying to score even when the puck is in the offensive zone.

So what's the term you sign Schiefele to just to convince Hellebucyk that you can win when we've been to one CF with Schiefele as a 1A-1B type centre?

The fear of rebuilding turns you into Vancouver.

Depends how much winning you have in mind?;) It seems most rankings I see have Mark as the 18th - 20th best centre in the league. He is far from the recognized top-10 centre of 3-4 years ago.

IF Perfetti can become a centre (something I think is far from certain) than maybe he can eventually supplant Mark as a number 1 centre in 2 -3 years...assuming Mark signs a long-term deal here. I would say Dubois would have a shot at becoming the #1 centre in Winnipeg, but I feel certain he won't sign here.

Helly said he would be open to signing with the team if they are to remain competitive. What would he think if the Chevy did nothing or limited his trades to some Cody Eakin-type player prior to the deadline?

Hellebuyck is great. Probably a jersey going into the rafters. But this mentality of "what will he think" about any move the team makes is a losers mentality. If the team isn't good enough now there needs to be changes. The core has been together for a long time and a guy like Schiefele is leaving his prime.

If Hellebuyck wants to leave you turn him into assets like the rest of the guys who want to leave or are losing their value in terms of contributing to wins/their price tag.

Bowness was short and to the point in his post game presser.

We'll see if the Jets respond on Sunday.

Bones beating the drum on the "commitment to work" message again -
"At this point, they know what they are supposed to do - it's a matter of preparing to work to do it"
It's interesting that he was hitting this point over and over - like he has been all season.
I don't think it's that difficult to put our finger on the major issue right now - it'll come down to whether or not this team responds (again) to the message and starts working - if they don't, the rest doesn't matter - including adding players.
Bones is frustrated in his post game -

I know one thing - the message is pretty clear to me - hopefully when it's all said and done, we don't see a lot of off ice interviews with the players telling us there was a lack of communication.
