And not just McDonalds. Fast food prices went through the roof in the last 4 years. Used to be able to eat at cheap places for $10-$12. Now it's $18-$20.Very much so.

I really like both Trinidad and Alamosa. They aren't the nicest and cleanest towns in the world, but cool areas and good people. And the Sangre de Cristos are just crazy beautiful and not ran through like many of the ranges in Colorado. One day people will probably wake up to the area, but I hope it isn't soon.We had great experience in Trinidad. People were so friendly, invited us to their house to a Nuggets watch party and crash over for a night as we were looking for a campground. They even drove us over the hill to Raton NM as the winds were CRAZY that time.
Other than that, southern part of Colorado wasn't that great.

McDonalds in most other parts of the world have higher wages than North America but cheaper prices, better menus, and are cleaner.Yeah.. in California they promise $20/hour for starting wage for McDonalds employees. Thats teachers salary in Finland. Inflation in the States has been crazy.

Yeah Raton can be crazy windy... any area where there is a dip between mountains to the west just rips on the wind. To the west of Raton, you'd find some of the biggest elk in all of North America. Just absolute monsters and plentiful. The more you know.![]()

If you're going to grab a burger in North America the big fast food chains are terrible value. Like paying 2.5 million for a Miles Wood level of value.
As a Canadian, I'm stunned at US prices... they are the same (or more) as Canadian prices now but they have a stronger dollar. Like the same grocery items cost more in USD than in CAD...which is pretty sick considering that 1 CAD = 0.73 USD.Yeah.. in California they promise $20/hour for starting wage for McDonalds employees. This sure sounds incorrect to me. I'm spending a month in Calgary right now and supermarket and fast food prices are a little more than Denver prices even after converting to USD. It's not significantly more but in most cases it's about 10% more. And this is shopping at Superstore. Going to Safeway or Co-op is much worse. And of course gas and most other consumer things are more expensive than back at home. About the only thing that's a good value is Tim's as that's cheaper than Dunkin back at home.As a Canadian, I'm stunned at US prices... they are the same (or more) as Canadian prices now but they have a stronger dollar. My sister gets paid in CAD but she often has to work in the US...so when she's south of the border everything is ridiculously expensive because of inflation and the exchange rate.
Eh, I think it depends on the specific area. In Alaska, fast food has gotten incredibly overpriced for what it is and has been doing so for quite some time up here. In fact, it's often cheaper for me and the wife to go to a restaurant and have a nice sit down meal than it is to stop at McDonalds on the way home from work. Obviously, I'm not talking about steak and lobster here, but we can go get Cuban, Greek, Thai, Korean, Japanese and Mexican cheaper. There are plenty of restaurants that are much more expensive, but plenty of great mom and pop restaurants are cheaper than fast food up here. This sure sounds incorrect to me. I think people just like to complain about prices these days. It's more than before for sure but this whole fast food is only for the rich story is utterly ridiculous.
Honest question, has there ever been a player on the Avs that you didn't like?
No.
Although Kyle Quincey upset me when he claimed all our players had their bags packed and were looking to get out the door, and Ryan Stoa as well, who took a shot as us after he left the organization, also disappointed me.
All I remember is that the rink there was pretty nice to play in but the rest of the town was a dump.Pueblo is pretty awful. Southern Colorado as a whole (sans Durango area) is rather impoverished (by American standards) and grimey. There is some beautiful landscape that is rather untouched though.
No.

I mean, the last 20 posts have also been off topic unless you consider McDonald's and Jacob MacDonald to be relatedit's OT i'm sorry , but i didnt realise that the Avs drafted Stoa one spot ahead of Marc-Edouard Vlasic.![]()
To be fair to Stoa the Avs put him in a position to fail. The Avs should have concentrated on developing Stoa into a top line ECHL forward.No.

It is honestly insane on how much better they were at drafting in the early years. Number of NHLers who played 200+ NHL games:Bah...Stoa. Good thing the Avs did much better with their next pick in that draft.
One thing to keep in mind is the state of drafting in the 90s and early 00s compared to today. It is honestly insane on how much better they were at drafting in the early years. Number of NHLers who played 200+ NHL games:

From 1995 to 2008, none of those picks were higher than 12. From 2010 to 2017, only 1 was not a top 10 pick (Butcher)
It certainly has gotten better and more predictable, but that should actually help the Avs success in the late 1st to 2nd rounds. One thing to keep in mind is the state of drafting in the 90s and early 00s compared to today.
Datsyuk went undrafted in 96 and 97 before finally going 171st in 1998. Zetterberg was drafted 210th overall (7th round) in 99. For us...Hejduk was a 4th rounder. Drafting has gotten so much better that all these guys go in the first now. Good to great players simply do not fall to the lower rounds any more.

I mean, sure it should help the Avs in the first round or two, but because they absolutely suck at evaluating young talent what this has done is robbed them of the chance of being accidentally right on someone who fell much, much lower than they should have.It certainly has gotten better and more predictable, but that should actually help the Avs success in the late 1st to 2nd rounds.
We also still have some crazy instances of stars falling... Bread never being drafted, Kaprizov in the the 5th, Point in the 3rd, Kuch in the late 2nd, Gaudreau in the 4th, Stone in the 6th.... it still happens with solid regularity.
Man, whenever I think about watching this all unfold here live I get the biggest grin on my face. It's an instant trip to a memory that raises my spirits no matter where I'm at in the moment. You handled the whole thing with such grace. I know lots of folks who will say something like that, but very few are honorable enough to try a new protein source when push comes to shove.58 points in 253 (including playoffs) games, and he still made me eat a worm ! haha
The club told me back then, they showed the video on the team bus, to much laughter !
I remember you eating the worm as I was on the Avs' team main board at the time but I can't recall the actual bet. Could you remind us guys that have not as good a memory as others here?58 points in 253 (including playoffs) games, and he still made me eat a worm ! haha

Yeah I remember now. I was quite sure you were safe with that bet as well. No offense but in a way I was glad you lost that bet because it made for a very entertaining moment.Someone claimed Kevin Porter was 100% going to score the game winning goal that night.
Bear in mind, we had players like Forsberg, Fleischmann, O'Reilly, Shattenkirk, Stewart, Jones, Hejduk, Stastny and Duchene among others in the team at times that year. Given these players, I thought the likelihood was pretty stretching hahaha. I promised that if he scored the game winning goal, I'd go out back, grab a big ol' Aussie worm in my backyard and devour it alive and on video.....BIG mistake !
Anyways, the rest is history, and I literally ate crud for it hahahaha.
I'm a firm believer if you make a commitment, be prepared to follow through. NEVER lie. Well, yeah.
